Susan Ironfield Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Mar. 20, 2024.
Susan "Sue" Elizabeth Ironfield (née Carson) passed away very peacefully on March 15, 2024, in Hartford, CT, at the age of 79 surrounded by her family. She was born on January 7, 1945, in Manchester, CT. Sue retired from the United States Postal Service in 2009 after more than 39 years of loyal and professional service as a BME technician.

Many knew Sue as a passionate individual, especially when it came to causes she cared deeply about, such as animals, the military, and supporting President Trump. She generously donated to these causes over an extended period, always striving to make a difference whether to save a tiger or help a veteran have a better life and she never wavered. Sue will be remembered for her strong views and infectious laughter.

Sue will be deeply missed by her surviving family, including her sons James Kissell (Pam Forghetti) of South Windsor, CT, and Harley Ironfield (Suzanne Loesch) of Albuquerque, NM; her sister Anita Nicolazzo (Antonio Nicolazzo) of Little River, SC; her nephews Nicholas Tedone and Michael Nicolazzo; her grandchildren Ambyr Lennon (Mark) of Navarre, FL, James David (JD) Ironfield of Milton, FL, Sheyanna Frymyer (Tim Frymyer) of Morgantown, WV, and Neil Ironfield (Alyssa Ironfield) of Hampton, VA;
Jake Kissell of East Windsor, CT as well as her five great-grandchildren Chase Stevens, Aeyla Lalone, Parker Frymyer, Julia Jean Frymyer, and Rozlyn Ironfield.

Sue was preceded in death by her husband James Ironfield, father James Neil Carson, mother Ruby Eileen (Waite) Carson, brother Neil Carson, sister Maureen Carson, and other family members.

She attended Lincoln School for primary education and graduated from Manchester High School in 1963. Sue worshipped at Crossroads Community Cathedral in East Hartford, CT, and enjoyed hobbies such as bowling, line dancing, hiking, and walking her dogs by Bolton Lake.

There will be no calling hours. A private celebration of life will be held at a future date. Memorial donations can be made in her memory to a veterans or animal support organization of your choice.

The family is being assisted by the funeral home, and contributions can be made to honor Sue's memory.

I met Sue whilst she was always walking past my house near Bolton Lake with her dogs. We always chatted if I was outside. She knew I used to take care of feral cats and at one time donated bags of cat food for me to feed the feral cats. We always talked of animal rescue since that was what we had in common. I will always remember her sunny disposition, and I will remember her with a smile.
Condolences to the family, I am so sorry for your loss.

Sue and I shared many happy years together traveling to England to visit family, experiencing Israel and many family occasions. I always enjoyed our hikes together with our dogs discussing life. The subject always became political, which I managed to change, but I always respected her convictions. She wanted me to make her laugh so even in the hospital after her surgery I said to her “Sue, I have good news and I have bad news, the good news is that your surgery was a success. The bad news is you are now a Democrat!” The look on her face was priceless, so go in peace, my dear sister, knowing that you are in the loving arms of God until we meet again give mom and dad a big hug for me. All my love, Anita.

Sue and I bunked together on a Carribean criuse and she was the best companion i could have ever imagined !! we went on 4 snorkeling trips and enjoyed every minute of it. then on the way back there were 13 foot seas and while walking the deck we thought were going to be blown off the deck!! we laughed through the whole week!! i will miss that laugh, but i trust that i will see her again soon
