Susan King (Bombard) Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 29, 2025.
Susan Elizabeth King (Bombard), beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away on August 24, 2025, in Denver, Colorado, at the age of 68.

Born on December 11, 1956, in Holyoke, Massachusetts, to Walter and Peggy (O'Connor) Bombard, Susan grew up surrounded by family and a deep sense of creativity that stayed with her throughout her life. During her teenage years, her family lived in California before relocating to Illinois. There, over the following 30 years, she raised her own family before retiring to Wisconsin. Her final move was west to her home in the mountains of Colorado-a place that reflected her adventurous spirit and love of color with its gorgeous natural beauty.

Susan was a devoted mother to her daughters Jennifer Cundiff (Jacob), Stacey Olson (Kevin), and Jaclyn Hill, and a proud grandmother to Wyatt, Brynn, and Caleb. She is also lovingly remembered by her siblings Judith Heller, Patricia Bombard, and Thomas Bombard. Her family will forever treasure her thoughtful listening ear, unconditional support, and the way she made each person feel truly seen and heard.

She spent much of her professional life as a bank teller and loan processor at Wonder Lake State Bank in Illinois, where her warmth, sense of humor, and kindness touched colleagues and customers alike.

Outside of work, Susan's joy came from the little things that made life beautiful-resale thrifting, painting, puzzles, and her famously elaborate holiday decorations. Her home was always filled with handpicked treasures for every occasion. Her gifts were thoughtful and often homemade, as she was a skilled seamstress and crafter. She was also an avid gardener and a lover of singing. She brought color, art, and music into every space she entered. The friendships she nurtured were deep and genuine, as she was a loyal companion and confidant.

Those who knew Susan will remember her as a dedicated mother and grandmother, with a generous spirit and the quiet nature of an artist-someone you could always count on, even on her hardest days.

Memorial arrangements will be shared once they are set. Because Susan loved the ocean, the plans will include a seaside celebration.

My condolences to Jennifer, Jake and Brynn and the entire Bombard family. She sounds like a wonderful person and her joy and creativity are certainly reflected in Jennifer as she also follows her dream to sing and entertain. May you find joy in the wonderful memories and peace in knowing she now has her place in heaven, watching and praying for all of you. Love, Marge O'Connor (aka Mike's mom)

Thankful for the time spent with sweet Sue here in AZ. The laughs we all shared, her smile lite up the room and her kind loving spirit welcomed conversation and connection to others.
