Susan Dowling Pengelly

Pengelly, Susan Kathleen Dowling, age 67 of Trenton, born November 7, 1948, and died December 12, 2015. Adored wife of the late Michael Lee Pengelly and beloved mother of Michael Scott and Kristen Marie Pengelly. Also survived by her sister Deanna (Vincent) DeMassa, in-laws, cousins, an aunt, beloved nieces and nephews, grand-nieces and nephews, and many cherished friends. Her parents, Edward Louis and Mary Louise Dowling, preceded her in death. Susie was a gifted educator who taught in the Woodhaven School District, teaching elementary grades, high school, and served as the media tech at Wegienka Elementary School, overhauling their library and sharing her contagious love of reading. After retiring, she signed on as a Detroit Reading Corps volunteer, giving back to her childhood elementary school, Burns Elementary in Detroit. She was also an invaluable resource to teachers at Bates Elementary School in Woodhaven. Susie will be remembered as a loving and caring woman who loved reading, Motown, praying the rosary, Dancing with the Stars, the city of Detroit, IHOP, musicals, and going on adventures with her husband and children. She had a zest for and appreciation of life that was unmatched. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Susan's life may be made to Detroit Solanus Casey Center
