Susan Rudnicki Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jul. 8, 2024.
Susan Slack Rudnicki of Hingham died on June 30, at the age of 82, of complications from Parkinson's Disease. Born in Hyannis, Susan grew up on Cape Cod, attended the Lincoln School in Providence, and graduated from Barnard College in 1963. A year later, she married Grant Rudnicki, and the two built a life together based on a shared devotion to family and friends, and a love of music. Early in her career, Susan worked at MIT's Lincoln Laboratory, developing computer code in support of the Apollo lunar missions. Susan and Grant went on to live in Worcester, MA, and Salisbury, CT, before settling in Brookline, MA, to raise their two children. Susan continued her work as a computer programmer for Unisys Corp. until her retirement in 2005. In 2000, Susan and Grant moved to Norwell, MA, where family, friends, and music remained central to their lives. Susan played both piano and flute, and sang for many years with the Longy Chamber Chorus and Fine Arts Chorale. She was especially fond of spending time at the family's summer home in Little Diamond Island, ME, where she always seemed most at peace. Susan is remembered by all for her gentle nature, generous spirit, and unconditional kindness. She leaves her daughter Anna and son Ivan, their partners Ben Smith and Ina Steinhilber, her granddaughters Josie and Lizzie Smith, her nieces Kate Berseth, Susan Berseth, and Kate Hill, and a wide circle of friends. She was predeceased by her husband Grant, her sister Elizabeth Berseth, her nephew Stewart Rudnicki, and her parents Chester and Elfleda Slack.

Susan moved to Linden Ponds 2 days before I did and we met through our resident advisor. I was so excited that she went to the Boston Symphony with her friend Marian and I joined them and enjoyed many concerts together. We had many dinners together and sometimes attended programs here. I will miss her calm, quiet and friendly presence. She adored her granddaughters and loved spending time with her son and daughter. Susan was a wonderful part of our community and many people will miss her.
