I have learned six months later about my dear writer friend, supporter, nurturing big sister, Susannah MacKinnie (as I Knew her) tragically left us with husband Steve. I’m gutted. We never met, however, were kindred spirits.
You were such a talented artist, Susannah, and are dearly missed.
Thinking of you and your family and will keep you in my prayers everyday.
Rest well, my dear Friend. J.

I knew Susan by her nom de plume, Susannah MacKinnie. We connected on Medium where Susan published exquisitely crafted works of fantasy fiction in prose and poetry. Hers was a unique voice - one that I, along with her many readers, delighted in hearing and will miss enormously.

Susan and I had many exchanges via comments we posted on each other's stories. Ours was a virtual friendship I greatly enjoyed. I can only hope that I was as supportive and encouraging of her writing as she was of mine.

In more recent times, Susan took to including links to music clips to accompany - or even inspire - her stories. When I think of Susan now, this is the song I would have liked to have shared with her - The Horses by Daryl Braithwaite (1990). It was a huge hit here in Australia where I live and is still very much loved by young and old. This is the song I will remember Susan by.

Thank you, Susan, for your friendship. You will always have a special place in my heart. Fly free, my lovely.

My sincerest condolences to Rachel and Jessica and their families and to all who knew Susan.

Continued prayers for Susan's children, family and friends in her loss. No words can ever lessen their grief. Remember how much she was loved. May God carry you all in his arms at this time. The Class of 1970 will miss you!

I knew Susan Short as Susannah MacKinnie on the Medium writing platform.
I considered her a gifted creative, with her Canva art and magical words from imaginal realms.
I became a fan and follower and am pretty sure I read every piece she wrote.
And oh so willingly.
I became involved in her intriguing characters, resonating with feisty child Susannah Stewart and others.
And she generously returned the read with my work.
Back and forth our comments flew. Pieces of our hearts opening here and there.
I didn't know Susan outside of our writer's world, but I know genius when it crosses my path and I saw it in her.
I will miss her presence as a writer very much. She had a unique voice.
My deep compassion for family and friends.

Words do note surfice. I was near part of the Pillow family and I regard her memory greatly. Alas, I will be driving from Knoxville on January 21 st., returning from my niece's, Sydney, issuance of her DVM white coat. Kind forever regards.

Lovey intelligent friend from the wonder years. Every book she shared with me, I was in awe of the library it came from that she assembled. Kindly regarding for eternity.

I lived on Hillcrest Dr and knew Susan and her family well. I moved away and did not get to interact with her as an adult. I wish I had. Susan was pixie dust. Funny, sparkling, always bounced back, and a friend to everyone she met. Kind and fascinating- I enjoyed our friendship so much. She obviously carried those amazing gifts into adulthood. I grieve with the family and friends. She has left a beautiful legacy of love, giving, and curiosity.

Susan had such a sweet kind spirit. She was a joy to work with, having a smile for all she encountered. My sympathy to the family on this tragic double loss.
