Susan Trickett Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 31, 2022.
Susan Mary Bell Trickett died at home on the morning of August 8th, 2022, after a year-long battle with cancer. She is survived by her three children Beatrice, Gillian, and Piers; their father, David; her three grandchildren Edward, Matthew, and Orion; her sisters Rosemary, Liz, Angie, and Judy; her best friend and housemate Shelley, and her beloved dog Maggie. She was preceded in death by her sister Margaret and her parents Rosalind and Edward Bell.

Susan was born on January 31st, 1956 in London, England. She earned her undergraduate degree from Oxford University, received three Master's degrees, and later earned her PhD in Applied Cognitive Psychology from George Mason University in Virginia. Susan served as the Executive Officer of the Cognitive Science Society from 2010-2016. She was dedicated to her work as an educational researcher, most recently with ResultsLab. She was passionate about equity in education and was happiest in her work when her research served that purpose.

Susan loved volunteering in her community. She was an active member of St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, serving as Senior Warden, acolyte, reader, and in many service groups. You could frequently find her in the church garden or her own garden, both of which gave her much joy. She served on the boards of the Colorado Episcopal Foundation, Four Mile Historic Park, and was a member of the American Educational Research Association, International Society of the Learning Sciences, and the Cognitive Science Society.

Though she moved to the US in early adulthood, Susan was proud of her English heritage and enjoyed sharing traditions with friends and family. She was a natural hostess, spending time bringing people together with her love of cooking, her quick wit, and her art as a conversationalist. She loved gathering with friends and family, sharing a cuppa tea, and nobody ever left her presence a stranger. Susan loved gardening, skiing, hiking and almost any other activity that allowed her to be outdoors. She was a great cook and baker -- one of her favorite seasonal activities was baking Christmas cookies (hundreds of them) for neighbors, friends, and family. Spending time with her children and grandchildren brought her immense joy. Susan leaves behind many, many friends for whom she cared deeply and she will be dearly missed.

A memorial service for Susan will be held on September 24th, 2022 at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church in Denver, Colorado and will also be streamed online. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to:

St. Elizabeth's School in Denver (https://stelizabethsdenver.org/how-to-give), or

So sad to see that Susan has passed. She was a great and fun-loving friend in our primary school in Southgate, UK and through our teenage years. Very fond memories.

Susan was a great friend in many ways, but the most time we spent together was online playing the Scrabble-like game "Lexulous". Over the course of 10+ years we played 778 games and she was a tough opponent. Game 779 was begun but never finished. I will miss her.
