Susan Marie Underwood, 62, passed away in her sleep on June 13, 2021

She was born October 22, 1958, in Moses Lake, Washington.  Her childhood years were spent in Washington, Colorado, and Oregon before she made her way to Columbus, Georgia.  Susan would go on to graduate from Kendrick High School Class of 1976 and then would graduate from Albany Technical College in 2006 with an Associates in Business.

For the past 25 years she worked in the metal industry, devoting over 15 years to Superior Machine Works.

She is preceded in death by her mother, Marsha Steedley, father John Johanson, her sister Cathy Johanson and most recently in April she lost her dad, Chester "Butch" Steedley of Columbus, Ga.

Her greatest love, abilities and achievements shined as a daughter, a mother, and a nana.  Susan was a fiercely amazing mother, a spectacular Nana, and a deeply devoted daughter that cared for her dad until his last breath.  In addition to her family, she was often surrounded by a plethora of children who looked up to her as a bonus mom/nana. She was always there for her family and children of choice, whether it was a ride, a safe place, or just to have some laughs.  She was a magnet that drew you in and her love gave you peace.

Susan loved the beach, especially Destin. She loved to put together puzzles; she was a candy crush queen and had more games on her phone than you could count. She collected wolves but what most people will tell you about her passions is that she LOVED butterflies.

Her life example will always remain to inspire and strengthen her surviving family. They are her daughter Melissa Perone and her husband Jared of Dunnellon, FL, Danielle Underwood of Winston Salem NC, (Bonus daughter) Leslee Turner of Leesburg, GA; her grandchildren Jared Perone, Jr and his wife ArieAnna of Salt Lake City, Utah, Malori Mazon and her husband Manny of Warner Robbins, Ga, Dylan and Rase Perone of Dunnellon, FL, Sierra Underwood of Albany, Ga, Caitlyn Miles of Winston Salem, NC,  Jack Webb and Aaliyah Martin of Leesburg; great granddaughter Maddilynn "baby girl" Underwood ; siblings, Charles Johanson and Johnny Johanson of Columbus, Ga; Nephew Patrick Johanson of Polk County, Fl; nieces Terina Chaney of Sylvester, Ga, Christina Arbelo and Cathy Heavlow of Columbus, Ga ; great niece Tre'ann Lovelady of Columbus, GA. And a plethora of bonus children, grandchildren, nieces, and nephews along with a mile long list of friends that called her family.  The family tree she created was beautiful and full.

A Celebration of Life will be held by the family on Saturday June 19, 2021, at Kimbrell Stern Funeral Home in Albany, Ga at 1:00 pm.  All expressions of sympathy and love and support have been greatly appreciated by the family. In memory of their mom and their love for her, they only ask that members of other families hold one another close with the same love every day because you are not promised tomorrow.

To plant trees in memory, please visit the Sympathy Store.
