Obituary for Susan Vance-Johnson

Susan Vance-Johnson, age 69, passed away peacefully on October 14, 2024, at her home in Hilliard, Ohio, surrounded by her beloved family.

Susan was born to Florence and John Murphy and was one of eleven siblings: Erin (Paul), Tim (Nan), Sally (Rick), John Tom (Karen), Chris, Nell Ann (Bob), Heather (Peter), Mary (deceased), Ray (Karen), and Kathy (John). She is survived by her loving husband of 34 years, Kevin Johnson, and their four children: John Vance (Allie), Megan Koch (John), Derek Johnson, and Heather Johnson. Susan was also a doting grandmother to seven grandchildren: Johnny, Lorelai, Jimmy, Penny, Drace, Dexter, and Dax.

An individual of deep faith, Susan cherished her relationship with Jesus and her love for the Bible. She was a member of Journey Church in Plain City, OH. She was a fighter who bravely battled cancer multiple times, demonstrating incredible strength and resilience throughout her journey. She was passionate about fitness, the outdoors, and spent treasured moments with her friends at The Ladies Edge. Her family was her greatest joy, and she provided them with steadfast support and love. Before her retirement eleven years ago, Susan had a remarkable career, beginning at AT&T and ending as Senior Vice President of Human Resources for Nokia, where she uplifted many throughout her career.

Susan will be deeply missed for her warmth, wisdom, and kindness. She was an inspiration to everyone who knew her. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a children's cancer charity.

Dear Family and Friends of Susan Murphy Vance-Johnson,

Sue was my earliest best friend when we met in 5th grade and her family welcomed me in with open arms. Her Mom was one of our Girl Scout Leaders and helped us find our way to be "good scouts" in our community. We remained best friends at Nordonia High School (Class of 1973). Sue went on to an amazing career! She will be missed by all who knew her.

Lots of Love from Deb (Curley) MacDonald

Every moment I had with Susan was special, but I have to say the warmth, love and admiration I always felt from her when she looked at me was quite like nothing I've ever felt in my life. I was raised by the most loving parents, but for someone who was once a stranger to love me the way Susan loved me was so special. I will cherish all the photos and words that were spoken over me for the last 14 years of my life.
