Susie Raque Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Mar. 31, 2022.
Upon her death, Susie was no doubt greeted in Heaven by her parents, Bud and Pat Raque, as well as her beloved dog, Manny. For those left behind, March 28th was a tragic day, but we rest easier knowing Susie is surrounded by some of the people and furry friends she loved most in life and free from any health concerns that may have (slightly) prevented her from indulging in her favorite foods: chocolate, cookie dough and Diet Coke.

She leaves behind five (yes, five!) older sisters, Kathy, Pam, Mary, Nancy and Sally who are saddened to have one less person to boss around. Susie was loved by her brother in law, Jim, who was always game for friendly UK/UofL banter and available when Sue needed advice. Her sister Sally's wife, Ann, was a frequent conversation partner at holidays, as Ann is quick to laugh at our quirky family dynamics. Sue leaves behind eight nephews and nieces along with their spouses. Her eldest nephew's friend once asked if Susie was a grownup or a kid, and he didn't know the answer, which, until the day she died, was the best part of Susie. She was the fun, crazy aunt who you never knew what kind of trouble you could get into together (trust me, it's a lot!). Finally, Susie had four great-nephews and three great-nieces who she adored. Susie was a frequent Face-timer and was so patient through 20-minute calls where she mostly stared at the ground due to one said great-nephew controlling the phone while he showed her all his toys.

Professionally, Susie was a clinical social worker and cared deeply for her patients. A colleague spoke of her as having deep appreciation for her therapist skill, the energy she brought to her clients, her sense of humor and impressive penmanship.

Susie spent her free time dog-sitting and watching sports. She was an avid UoL, Notre Dame and New Orleans Saints fan. In lieu of flowers, we would love to honor her memory by contributing to the Kentucky Humane Society.

While tiny in stature, Susie made up for it with a big personality. You could always count on her to be smiling big and laughing hard. Please share your memories and stories about Susie, we know she will get a kick out of them!

People die, but love never does. We love you always and forever, Sus!

I grew up on Fallen Timber Drive during the 1980s, the Raque house was just a few doors down. Our neighborhood Brownsboro Farm was on the edge of town with a neighborhoods pool, tennis court and park.. a really big deal at the time. If memory serves me, Susie was a lifeguard a few summers and I recollect her as one of the grownups, one of the 'older kids'. If you're lucky like me, childhood memories are distant fantasies of simplicity and good times. I didn't know her well but she was part of my childhood, those good times and that's enough for me to grieve for her. I'm sorry to read to read of your family's loss.

Love this photo. That little grin is Susie. Susie, you were taken too young. I know you had plans you were not able to complete but some times the Lord has other plans. We enjoyed you so much every time we met - always a smile and a glad to see you hug. May God bless you and hold you tight as we recall the memories made here on earth. The pool, the stables - weren't we lucky. We'll never forget you. A big hug from all the Trojes with a lot of love. Dot and all the gang.

We were looking through old family pictures and those with Suzy in it showered her smiling or laughing. She always seemed to relish Clements Family get togethers and was quick to appreciate old stories (told slightly different each time as the years went by). It's tough to have to deal with so many health issues and am glad she's free of suffering.
