Suzanne Eula Hughes passed away on October 10th, 2025 in her home in Arvada, Colorado. She was born on March 8, 1958, in Chicago, Illinois to Richard Willis and Joan Fowler Hughes.
Suzi was full of vitality, energy, and friendliness. She loved cooking, canning, card making and lived by the motto “Love People, Cook Them Tasty Food.” She enjoyed hosting parties in her home, ranging from her hog roasts with husband Kelly in the 1980s to the ornament parties of more recent years, which became so popular she had to hold them over two days. She liked to travel–to visit friends, to have fun in Vegas, to Oregon to go crabbing with Dawn and Steve, London and Paris with Missy, and free rides with Scott. She especially enjoyed going to Lake Powell to go boating with friends. She loved her friends like they were family, extending her love to their children and grandchildren. She was proud of being a breast cancer survivor, and struggled to overcome alcohol addiction.
Suzi graduated from East High School in Cheyenne, Wyoming. After high school, she worked in NAPA warehouses in California and Denver. She then transitioned to a long career as a fleet manager, working for several cities and school districts.
Suzi is survived by her sister, Patricia (Michael) Hughes Mangis; her nephew, Joshua (Andrea) With, her uncle, Robert D. Hughes; cousins, M. David Hughes and RIchard (Wimon) Willis Hughes II; David (Carol) Tee, Steve (Carol) Tee, Bill (Molly) Tee; her dear sister-in-love Karen Whaley Norton; daughter-in-love Crystal Thielen, best friend Scott Loeske, and too many friends to count. We all are especially grateful for the love and care extended to Suzi during the last three years by her close friend, Janet Matzen.
She was preceded in death by her parents, by her husband Dean Kelly Austin, and by her partner Brent Burchfield.
The Celebration of Life for Suzi Hughes will be held at the Swim/Fitness Center, 3290 West 76th Avenue, Westminster, CO 80030, on Saturday, November 15th, with the program beginning at 11:00 am and a light lunch following.
In lieu of flowers, extend Suzi’s heart for feeding the homeless by contributing to Janet's Kitchen through Venmo (Janet Matzen).
