Suzanne Jenkins Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Nov. 7, 2024.
Suzanne Marie Jenkins, 75, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on October 18, 2024, after battling a long illness with courage and optimism.

Sue was born August 9, 1949, in Beloit, WI. She spent her formative years in Racine, WI, attending Washington Park High School. Her academic journey led her to UW-Madison, where she earned master's degrees in physiology and nutritional science.

While attending UW, Sue met Jim Jenkins, and they were married in 1971. They made their home in Madison. Sue worked as a Dietitian and later as the manager of Woodworks Furniture.

Sue raised three kids, who all settled in Madison. That was a blessing in Sue's life. She was there for the birth of her grandson, Colin, whom she loved dearly and cared for weekly. Even as her health declined, Sue prioritized Colin's events and family dinners, where everybody joined in.

In her spare time, Sue was an avid reader, a die-hard Badger fan, and a fantastic cook. She and Jim also enjoyed traveling afar with friends and family, annual trips to Hilton Head with the "Hunoodys," and having nightly crossword puzzle races.

Sue is survived by her husband Jim, son JJ Jenkins, daughters Christy Jenkins and Liz Jenkins-Thomack (James), grandson Colin Jenkins-Thomack, brother Jack Woodford (Linda), and many beloved cousins, nieces, and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, John Woodford and Helen (Hoffland) Woodford.

Sue devoted her life to her family. There was no mistake where her heart was. She was our greatest confidant, cheerleader, and shoulder to cry on... in her sweet, gentle way.

A celebration of Sue's life will be held on November 16, 2:00pm, at the Evjue Commons at Olbrich Gardens, Madison, WI. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to RSVP of Dane County, or go out for a nice dinner and raise a glass to Sue.

Sue was one of the kindest people I've ever met. The Jenkins house was a sanctuary for me during my youth. Thank you Sue for loving us kids no matter what we were up to. Thank you for your patience and compassion. I will strive to your level of generosity and kindness. You will be very missed.

Sue and Jim lived just down the block from us and our kids used to play with each other. My kids were boys, hers were girls, so they played with the girls more often. Then several years ago, Sue and Jim came up north to visit with our mutual friends Sally, Rob, Vicki and Andy. We had such a good time, old friends reconnecting. I wasn´t aware Sue was fighting the serious illness that took her life. So sad.

We were so sorry to hear of Suzanne´s passing. She was a lovely lady. Know you´re in our hearts.
"Remember me in your heart:
Your thoughts, and your memories,
Of the times we loved,
The times we cried,
The times we fought,
The times we laughed.
For if you always think of me,
I will never have gone." - Margaret Mead
