SVEN BACKLUND Obituary

Sven was born in Ornskoldsvik, Sweden to the late Herta and Oscar Backlund. After immigrating to the US, his family settled in Huntington Beach and opened the popular Villa Sweden restaurants, with Sven and his ex-wife owning 2 locations. He was a graduate of HBUHS and OCC. Multi-talented, Sven had careers in leasing, yacht sales, music and broadcasting. He loved family, sailing, sports, music, karaoke and a good prank. His smile and sense of humor were his trademark. He is survived by his daughter, Britt (Mike) Cain; grandchildren, Aidan and Caitlin; siblings, Carin (Roger) Prelesnik, Hans (Kay) Backlund, Ron (Elisandel) Backlund; nieces, nephews; and ex-wife and friend, Carolyn Voss. Sven was loved by family and friends. Our loss is heaven's gain. Celebration of Life will be held on Sat., April 26, 2014 at 3pm at Hope Chapel, HB. In honor of Sven, consider wearing a Hawaiian shirt. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to: Charla's Children, P.O. Box 74000, San Clemente, CA, 92673.

Uncle Sven, I genuinely cannot believe you've been gone for 10 years . We all miss your warm presence, your jokes and pranks, and always , you. Finding solace that you and Aunt Carin are in heaven rejoicing without pain or suffering keeps us going. Found a cd the other day when you used to make music and boy you were sharp.

Uncle Sven was an awesome guy, loved to fly remote control planes, prank, was a great uncle. The celebration of life was heartwarming in 2014. Love you.

When I see a picture oh Sven or hear his name, it reminds me so much of his great personality, his joy for life and the humor he brought to life! I'm sure his brothers and sister still miss him, as do his own family and all of his extended family. RIP Sven!

I was both saddened and very sorry to hear recently of Sven's death. I am a longtime friend of the family and a former employee of the HB Villa Sweden in the late 60's. I know that his family and all his friends are missing him terribly and they have my deepest sympathies. I hope they love your pranks in Heaven as much as we did! RIP Sven!

We will miss his sweet smile and great humor. He was truly a wonderful man and a pleasure to know. We have enjoyed his karaoke at the Newport Harbor Elks Lodge for many years. He will be missed greatly by all who knew him.
