On the 28th of December,my husband told me that Sybil had called to tell me that she "loved our card" and that she had bone cancer. He said that her voice was alert, and perky and kind. I did not want to hear the message. So, I waited, and finally last week on January 19th I decided to hear it for myself. I couldn't believe it.. and was just the most amazing voice mail I have ever received. She said that she was receiving medication for pain every four hours, and decided at the age of 87 that she was not going fight it with treatment. I couldn't do anything. I couldn't even see her, and tell her how blessed I was that I had had the honor of knowing her. All I could do was pray, that she was in good hands. What a beautiful lady, and how lucky I was to have known Sybil. I send you all my very deepest heart in your loss. I will always look out at her lake and mine, and remember how much it meant to us for so long.
Peace to you all. I am working at the mountain tomorrow with children with special needs learn to ski, and will be thinking of her at St. Paul's.
Fondly,
Ruthie G (Becker) Nye

In My Pocket

I have memories in my pocket.
They rattle among the change.

My memories of you are treasures I carry wherever I go.

They are stored in bits and pieces, parts of a beautiful whole
They give me comfort when I think I am alone.

Yes, I have memories in my pocket, like so much other stuff I keep there.

But of all the treasures I have, it’s the memories of you that are the most precious.
