Age 82, of Avalon, peacefully at home, on Wednesday, October 10, 2018. Beloved wife of the late Robert Meta and the late Walter Lewan. Loving mother of Steven Lewan, his wife, Jacki; grandmother of Amanda Lewan, James Barum and Brianna Barum; sister of Robert Kushner, his wife, Shirley; and the late Joan Clark, her husband, the late Fred Clark; aunt of Gary Clark, Richard Clark, Christine Kushner Pawlak and the late Bob Kushner. Sylvia loved unconditionally and her generosity knew no bounds. She was a fierce political partisan who carried her voter registration card in her wallet showing her to be a proud Democrat since 1964. Sylvia loved watching political shows and her comments were hilarious and insightful..."Trump's going to dump Pence for Haley!". She also loved watching golf…"I can't stand the way that Dustin Johnson swaggers...who does he think he is?!" She lived her life without pretense and having grown up in the Monongahela Valley she could wield a spade or a snow shovel as well as any man and often did. She never went to college but her children did. She never flew on an airplane or visited other countries but her children did. She never played a musical instrument but her children did. She taught her children to seize the day and make a difference in someone else's life. Her New Year's Day pork and sauerkraut was to die for. Well thank you for our lives Sissy. What more could anyone ask from a mother? Love you and goodbye. As per Sylvia's wishes service and interment are private. Arrangements entrusted to McDONALD-LINN FUNERAL & CREMATION SERVICES, LLC, 529 California Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA 15202. Please view and sign the family's online guestbook at;
