MURPHY, Sylvia Frances Sarah MacCormack
It is with great sadness that the family of Sylvia Frances Sarah Murphy, nee MacCormack, 80, of Vancouver, British Columbia, in Coast Salish Territory, formerly of Dublin, Ireland, announce her passing. She died peacefully in her sleep on June 2nd, 2013, at Banfield Pavilion in Vancouver, BC. Born February 2nd , 1933 in Dublin, Ireland, and moving to Vancouver, BC, in 1956. She is predeceased by her parents, George MacCormack and Stella MacCormack/Harney, nee Robinson, of Dublin, Ireland, step-father William Harney of Dublin, Ireland, brother Patrick MacCormack, of Blaine, WA, and sister Hazel Goddard, of Wiltshire, UK. Sylvia was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She was the perfect mother to her five children, Carl, Michele, Philip, Melanie, and Sylvi, and is also survived by the father of her children, Mr. John Murphy currently of Calgary, Alberta, formerly of County Kildare, Ireland. She was a long time employee of Pacific Press, and was enjoying her retirement. She loved animals, enjoyed gardening, reading, and spending time with her family, keeping up on world news, and was an avid supporter of local politics. She was a dedicated attendee at St. James, Vancouver, BC, since 1956, and a long term member of the St. James Women's Guild. She is survived by: her brother Alan MacCormack of Chichester, UK; sister Pauline Harney, Holy Family Sister, Newbridge, Co. Kildare, Ireland; sister Patricia Martin, nee Harney, of Toronto, Ontario; Sylvia's five children; and many grandchildren and great grandchildren. Many thanks to the wonderful caregivers at Banfield Pavilion VGH who cared for mum so well in her last year. Cremation services will be held at Amherst Funeral Services. Services will be held at St. James Church, Vancouver, BC. Vespers at 8:00 pm on June 21, and Requiem Mass on Saturday, June 22nd, at 1:00 pm, with interment to follow at St. James. In lieu of flowers, Memorial donations may be made to St. James Church, 303 E. Cordova St., Vancouver, BC, or to the Multiple Sclerossis Society of Canada. Reception to follow at St. James Church, May Gutteridge Room.
