My deepest sympathies to your family on the loss of your mom. Auntie Sylvia was dearly loved by so many people. My dad, Bob, used to speak so fondly of his memories of time spent with Uncle Bill and Auntie Sylvia during his childhood, and as children, we looked so forward to their visits to Yorkton. She was such a kind, generous and loving aunt, with the loveliest spirit. We only just heard of her passing this past weekend and were sorry not to be able to attend her funeral. Please accept my condolences on behalf of our entire family. We loved her very much.

I am not a member of the extended Sawyshyn family nor a member of the Hafford community or even a former student. However, I wanted share my memories of Sylvia with all of you.

I first met Sylvia at a Ukrainian cultural workshop sponsored by UCC which was held in Saskatoon. I had just become Eparchial President of the Ukrainian Catholic Womens League in Saskatchewan, and being from Regina(most of the people there were from Saskatoon), I did not know many of the people at that workshop. Sylvia went out of her way to be friendly with me and as a result we struck up a friendship that lasted some 27 years and one that had at its roots the work we did for and through the UCWLC.
Sylvia was respected throughout the province as a community person. One did not hear about the UCWLC Branch in Hafford, or the Ukrainian Catholic Church in Hafford or the community there, without having her name mentioned.

Last year I had the opportunity to attend a special anniversary celebration of the Branch and of the Parish. Sylvia and I had the time to have a quick chat and a quick hug.

May the angels carry her swiftly and softly to her new home in heaven while we here on earth sing Vichnaya Pamiat!!

Auntie Sylvia will be so missed. She had such an elegant country spirit and a warm, beautiful natural laugh. How lucky our family was to have such a great aunt. I am thinking of you and your families John, Lorrie, Marylou and Robert at this time.

Our deepest sympathy to your family on the passing of your dear Mother. Such fond memories of Kindergarten in the lower level at the Sawyshyn home, the large table, the scrapbooks and the friends. She was a wonderful teacher and touched the hearts of many in the community of Hafford. May she rest in eternal peace.

From our house in Hafford we could see the lights of the Barabash farm. The Barabash girls were wonderful role models for us. For me, personally, Sylvia was my very kind and gentle teacher when I was in grade four.
Sincerest sympathy to the family and may her gentle spirit live on....
