My mother (Barbara Matt), my sister (Betsy Matt Turner) and I join in sending our condolences. Sylvia was an institution. My late father--Joseph--had so many stories to tell of her; whenever we came to Minneapolis we so enjoyed visiting with her. She will be missed.

My family and I want to extend sincere condolences to Susan, Barbara, Joel, Jimmy, Shari and all the grandchildren and great grandchildren and extended families on the passing of Sylvia. She was an intelligent, savvy woman who was way ahead of her time. I know there will be a big void in the Adath community and in your large family. Circumstances kept us apart for many years, but we reconnected at the Adath with a meaningful, cordial relationship and she confided in me. For that I was grateful.Somehow whenever there was a meeting she and I always wound up sitting next to each other and I was able to help her with her beverages, etc. She was fiercely independent and wanted to remain that way, which is a credt to her tenacity. Even though I have not seen the family I wish you all well and hope that your mom's memory will be a blessing to you all, and inspirational in the way you conduct your lives. May her soul rest in peace. I hope that she received the many cards and regards I and Dave sent her when she was ill. Safe trips back to all who traveled here. She always shook Dave's hand whenever she saw him at the synagogue and was cordial. She is now at peace. She told me she was glad my Dave is such a caring nice man. With sympathy, Charlene Schwartz and Dave Zoldahn

My very sincere condolences to Sylvia's entire family.
I knew Sylvia on many levels. She was my cousin, Libby/Betty Marsh Baum's roommate, at the U.of MN School of Nursing during WWII, and for a year at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester.
She was my husband, Milt, and my real estate agent when we bought our 1st home on Drew and our 2nd on Huntington.
When I started researching the history of Adath Jeshurun Congregation, she gave me great insight into numerous facts as both her parents and Russ's were among the earliest member families. Her parents were married in 1904 at the 1st synagogue building on 7th St. Her father served as the Adath Treasurer and Vice President for many years. Her Mother's sister, Lena, married the venerable Rabbi C.David Matt, 1912-1927at Adath, and their wedding dinner was held in 1913 at the Harris home on Irving Ave. S. The picture of that wedding dinner is a historical gem with many of the leaders of the Mpls. Jewish Community. Sylvia gave me numerous family photos for our history and with them she shared many interesting stories.
I loved Sylvia and will miss her. She was a "Gem' - not only for her family but for our community.

My heartfelt condolences to the Schwartz family. Sylvia was an amzing person and a dear friend to our family. She helped me purchase two homes and was always a great business person as well as a human being. Sylvia was the consumate doer and giver throughout the 55+ years that I knew her. She was always doing for others, involved with important causes and was a wonderful and enthusiastic mother to her family. Sylvia was a person that really set an example for others about how to live a meaningul and joyous life. She will be missed deeply.

The Felix, (Baum, Marsh, Sinykin) family sends our love and condolences to Sylvia's family.
Sylvia was my aunt's, (Libby Marsh Baum) best lifelong friend - these two young women went to nursing school at U of M together at a time when young Jewish women did not do that. It was difficult for them to be respected and the anti-Semitism was blatant, but they persevered.
We bought a home in St. Louis Park with help from Sylvia in the 1970's.
Even though we moved away from the Twin Cities, over the years I have kept in touch with Sylvia and when Libby passed away, we included her with our family. We spent that whole day together and Sylvia shared wonderful stories with us as we reminisced and remembered their lives. What a privilege it was and how thankful I am to have had that opportunity.
Sylvia was a woman of her time who did it all – big gregarious and loving family, career(s), philanthropy, commitment to Adath and Judaism.
May her many memories be a blessing.
Fondly,
Helen Marsh Felix, Marcia (Felix) & Mark Goldman, Steve & B C Felix

Sylvia was a gracious and thoughtful woman whom I am thankful to have known--even briefly. My family and I are honored to live in the house that was such a meaningful part of Sylvia's story. We will strive to act as stewards of her caring spirit and joy of life.
