Sylvia Shinbrood (maiden name: Meyer) died Monday Morning December 16, 2024 in her bed at the age of 99 at Home Suite Home assisted living facility in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida.
Sylvia was born in Chicago, but lived and grew up in Decorah, Iowa with her 5 siblings.
At 18 years old, Sylvia moved to Chicago to live with her two sisters where she worked as a bookkeeper.
In 1948 she met Morton Shinbrood and they were married on June 19, 1949. They lived on Whipple Street in Chicago when their first son, Marc, was born in 1950.
In 1955 they moved to Park Forest, Illinois and had their second son, Joel in 1956. She and Morton lived in Park Forest until they retired to Las Vegas in 1981.
Morton died in 1999 and Sylvia continued to live in Las Vegas until she broke her hip in 2019. She then moved to Palm Beach Gardens, Florida with her son Marc and daughter-in-law Laura.
At her death, Sylva was 99 and a half years old. She died in comfort with no pain.
She is survived by her son Marc and daughter-in-law Laura in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida and her son Joel in Crystal Lake, Illinois.
The family asks that in lieu of flowers that you make a donation to Trustbridge Hospice Care.

My condolences to Marc, Laura, and Joel. I'll miss Aunt Sylvia, a warm and funny lady. Many great memories of our family gatherings. She had a great laugh.

Sylvia and I shared the position of the mother-in-laws. From the very beginning of the long romance of Laura and Marc, we were on the same team. We started by honestly sharing our thoughts resulting in a very long friendship. She will be missed.

Sylvia was "all class" and a very special woman who reminded me from day one of my grandmother "memom". Her Vegas days and stories almost assured me our paths may have crossed many times there as well. It was a great honor providing caring for Sylvia the last year and a half of life. Her son Marc I also hold with high respect, as he visited Home Suite Home every single afternoon, which in itself is most remarkable. RIP xoxo Dave & Erica.
