Taalib-Din Moussa Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Apr. 3, 2025.
Taalib-Din Moussa died peacefully on March 28, 2025 in White Plains, NY at the age of 82. Moussa (as he was often addressed) was born Ronald Wayne Queen on Jul 6, 1942 in Prince Georges Maryland. He was born to Doris Glover (née Marshall) and Rudolph Anduze, Sr.; his adoptive parents were Moses and Ora Queen.

Moussa spent his youth in Maryland where he attended St. Emma Military Academy and later graduated from Dunbar High School in Washington D.C. He was a Veteran and served in the United States Army in the 1960's.

Throughout his life, he lived in many cities including Washington D.C., New York City, Connecticut, Detroit and Los Angeles.

He was an avid athlete and enjoyed running track, playing basketball and maintaining physical fitness.

Moussa was passionate about literature, poetry, politics and sports cars. He particularly loved the Aston Martin and the Porsche. Another passion of his was jazz music. One of his favorite pastimes was taking a long drive with the music of Miles Davis blasting from the speakers.

He was a devout Muslim and embraced Islam in the 1970's. He later changed his name from Ronald Wayne Queen to Taalib-Din Moussa. In 1977, he met and married Judy Moussa (née Dorsey), who remained a constant presence in his life and a partner in Islam for over 40 years.

Moussa worked in many different occupations over the years. At times, he was an Imam, claims adjuster, risk manager, property manager and cab driver. For a brief period, he also worked in private security for celebrities. He had many talents and even taught himself conversational Arabic.

Fashion and style were also important to Moussa. He loved to show off his silver hair and took his appearance very seriously. He would rather stay home if he could not look his best!

In his retirement years, Moussa spent a lot of time traveling to see his children and grandchildren. He also spent time at the Masjid with his wife Judy, and became a big fan of Formula 1 racing. He counted himself among Lewis Hamilton's biggest fans.

Moussa is survived by his devoted wife, Judy; his children, Tracy Mason, Kim Smoot, Ronald Smoot, Arnold Smoot, Angelique Patterson, Khadijah Queen, Taliah Goedar, Hasani Moussa and Mikal Moussa; his siblings, Gayle Glover and Guy Glover and a multitude of grandchildren and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Ora and Moses; his birth parents, Doris and Rudolph; and his beloved daughter Shelly Smoot.

Moussa was one-of-a-kind and will be missed more than words can express. He was loved by many and made an impact on all those who knew him. We love you and may Allah protect you.

Thank you, Demetrius, for posting here about my father. It means a lot to read that he was good friend and mentor. He had changed a great deal over the years and I was just getting to know him again when he died. Almost six months ago now. Love and miss my dad. But he is with me.
