Tara Krause Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jun. 19, 2019.
New London - Tara (Broughel) Krause, 64, passed away unexpectedly June 14, 2019. Tara was a warm and loving spirit who had a gift for befriending and bringing comfort to everyone around her. Her passion for helping others led her to work for many years as a nurse, including at New London's Lawrence + Memorial Hospital. She was also active in the local business community and opened first a retail store, Balloons by the Sea, and then a paint-your-own pottery store, Get Fired Up/Fireworks, in Niantic. Tara was outgoing, forming friendships with ease and she maintained deep and lasting bonds with loved ones from all facets of her life. She was generous and magnetic and brought joy to everyone around her with her playful sense of humor and antics that made us double over in laughter. Tara also cared deeply about nature and animals and raised many dogs and cats throughout her life. All of those touched by her will miss her deeply.

Tara was born in Hartford August 28, 1954, the daughter of James Driscoll and Eleanor (Clancy) Broughel, who instilled in her great pride in their Irish heritage. She grew up in West Hartford and spent many summers at Black Point in Niantic where she developed a life-long love of the sea.

Tara is survived by her daughter, Abby Krause; and her siblings, David B., Barbara M., and Andrea J. Broughel; her beloved nieces and nephews, Tara, James, Lindsay, John, and Luke Broughel, Lucan Pipkin, Gabe Klein, and Kristin and Brian Sutherland; in addition to the Scully and Krause families. She was predeceased by her sisters, Brenda Baker and Sheila K. Broughel.

A memorial service and celebration of her life will take place later this summer.

I adored Tara. Everytime I saw her she made me happy. Take for example she sat behind me in 9th grade Algebra. Taking a test she crawled under her desk and scribbled all over my legs with a pen. She pushed Debbie down the Up Staircase at Sedgwick. She stole my favorite Villager royal blue crew neck because it matched her eyes. I stole pictures of cows in a field she took in Ireland. And something else I won't mention. We crested a fake boyfriend with a crush on Nancy Conant. "D. K." We admitted to our Algebra teacher we'd been cheating. He let us stay after classes and learn. In Baking she poured in about a half cup of baking powder. The bread oozed out of the door and all over the floor. Oh no. I wasn't going to clean that up. We enjoyed her Shower and Wedding Reception. Joan and I saw her every summer at Black Point. She was marvelous. And so much fun. And her eyes were so blue. She'll always be missed. Love, Gail Arnold

I am so saddened to hear of your loss Eric, Abby, the Broughel and Krause families. I hold such wonderful memories of the fun times Tara and I enjoyed, often laughing until we cried, whether we were trying to win at Cribbage, Pitch or Pictionary or just enjoying a frequent moment of silliness. When Tara was present, laughter and happiness abounded. She was gifted with an enormous loving heart and uncanny sense of humor. She had the knack of bringing out laughter in everyone. She wil be missed but never forgotten.

I only recently met Tara as a coworker but she was a very special lady. Im so saddened to hear of her passing. I will always remember her as the balloons by the sea lady and will hold the pottery pieces I painted there with much more regard now. Everyone at McQuades Mystic senda all their love and prayers.

I'm so sorry for our loss, Tara had such a wonderful spirit, remember our days in our teens at the beach Black Point summers.
Tara showed so much compassion as a person, but as a nurse while we both worked together at Scadd.
Tara, thank you !!
