To the Quinn family and friends:
Like a summer nor'easter at flood tide, Tara managed to sweep us all away. I always admired the apt name given to her by her parents, which happens to be Gaelic for “hill” , Farsi for “star” and Hindu for “'goddess of the sea.” They were prophetic in knowing she would be an outdoorsy, witty, caring and charming (at times) individual that preferred to be on water rather than land.
We were in our early 20's when we met at a sailing regatta and she immediately became “one of the guys” rushing to water (impulsively) whenever the wind blew over 18 knots. The first thing Tara did after we met was have me buy proper hunting boots and then how to keep my truck from getting stuck in the mud (sometimes requires a friend with a bigger truck). Tara's “Irish eyes” could always spot arrowheads or hunt anything from afar.
As a sail maker, Tara taught me how to sew a quiver of sails. After taking a seam ripper to my brand new sails, with hearty laughter, Tara found a way to remake them stronger and more beautiful than ever (and then sell them for a profit). We spent weeks on this sailboard quiver making project “working” into the wee hours while sipping Heinekens and shouting jokes across Captain Jack's cavernous sail loft. Tara always opted for the strongest materials of Kevlar and Mylar and preferred colors matching a perfect sunrise: purple, blue, yellow and white. I never wanted to finish those sails, because I knew when we did, Tara would move on. Tara's beautiful expression of life will survive in the hearts of those she simply swept away.
Best wishes to Tara's great family and friends. I'll be thinking of Tara every time I see a formation of wild ducks or gaggle of geese flying stoically away.

To Colin and the Quinn Family:
I am so very sorry for your loss – gone too soon. I came to know Tara from my days spent on the Island in the early 80's and on, from my friendship with the Craig family, specifically, Bethanie as well as the Wendells. I will remember Tara fondly, and with great respect from the social events we shared, from the parties at the point, (Capt. “Brower”-sp.ck.), ‘the player piano' on the Lone Star, the water tower, etc…
These are cherished memories I hold…Thank you Tara for being a part of them – peace be with you and yours. Namaste.
Thoughts are with you and yours,
Monica Leslie Tarleton

Tara was always so fun! I remember about 7 years ago she talked to me at the Safeway on Kent Island for quite a while about the her favorite pasta sauce. She always came into Chesapeake Chicken with a big ole smile on her face. I always admired her beauty while being and outdoors can doing anything kind of gal. I am so sorry she was stricken with this terrible disease, I did not know. Her family is my prayers. oxox Annie Witte

May the black ducks never elude you
May the winds always blow
May the wave be just enough
May the biggest of bucks walk near you
You'll be missed by many ......

I have many fond memories of time spent afield with Tara as well as Sean and the "usual suspects." She was a real class act and I know she will be missed by Sean, her family, and all who knew her.

I remember Tara from Severn School. She was in my class and was a terrific artist, especially her watercolors. She also had a devilishly sly sense of humor- we cracked up in art class many times! Travel well, Tara.
