Tasha WALLACE Obituary

Published by Montreal Gazette from Sep. 19 to Sep. 21, 2017.
WALLACE, Tasha Anne (nee Johnson) 1950 - 2017 Tragically passed away in a scuba diving accident on September 10, 2017. Wife of Robert (Bob) for over 43 years of love, fun and adventure. She is also survived by her sisters Janet (Joe), Eileen (Phil), Lorraine (Pam), Lee (Duane) and brothers Keith and Ross (Mara). Predeceased by her mother Alma Isabelle Johnson and father K.M. Selby Johnson. Tasha lived life to the fullest, energetic, vibrant and with a totally inquisitive nature. After graduating the University of Waterloo with Honors- Bachelor Mathematics (Computer Science), she worked for Bell Canada, C.I.L, and Canadian National Railways where she cherished a challenge whether it was managing a multi-million dollar project, or learning to be part of a train crew. Receiving her MBA from the McGill University School of Business set her on the road to the career that she loved- teaching. She received her Phd from Concordia University in Business Administration and touched the lives of many young students in the Management Department. She taught as opposed to lectured and her students loved her for the difference- many asking which course she was teaching next term. She will be missed, loved and live on in each one of us that knew her as a friend, through sports (YMCA, Pointe Claire Badminton Club, bowling or skiing) or as a teacher. A celebration of her life will be held on Thursday, September 21, 2017 at 3 p.m., followed by a gathering from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Mount Royal Funeral Complex 1297 Chemin de la Foret, Outremont, Quebec H2V 2P9 (514) 279-6540 (www.mountroyalcem.com) Please join us in celebrating her life with stories and perhaps a few laughs. Memorial contributions in her memory, if desired, can be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation (www.heartandstroke.com) or the charity of your choice.

I have only just learned of Tasha's passing. I have many wonderful memories from long ago, when we were classmates in Galt, Ontario.
I knew her as Carol in those days. Rest in Peace, my friend.

Dear Tasha, I learned of your passing last night while trying to reach you for an upcoming conference. My heart broke. You were such a wonderful human being. I will remember you always smiling, having fun and sharing your positive spirit and attitude with so much generosity. I will always keep you in my heart as an inspiration to be a better scholar, to do research passionately like you did so brilliantly and eloquently, and to continue caring about my students' success and well-being. I know you wouldn't have wanted me/us to be sad. I cried and am still crying, but I am mostly grateful for getting to know you. Thank you for touching the lives of so many with your graceful smile.

I am just learning of Tasha's death. I am so utterly sad to hear this news. I met Tasha when I moved to Montreal in 1990. We worked together at CN. Those years I spent working and occasionally skiing and lots of walking around Montreal were wonderful. We laughed and discussed all kinds of ideas. She was so smart, unique, fun. I will never forget her. I am so sorry for your loss, Robert.

Tasha Wallace, you are greatly missed and it is hard to believe you've left us.
I only knew her through the YMCA, but she left a huge impression upon all of us. She was our mentor, a good example, someone we all looked up to, not only because of her height, but because of her positive and energetic presence. She was 67 and still dancing at the most challenging classes at the Y. She asked how you were with sincerity. She wanted to know what was exciting in your life and she generously offered business advice too. I loved it. She was so positive, refused to give into negativity. She was a constant weekly presence in my last 10 years.

Tasha, we still hear your laughter and your wit, we see your smile, you will be remembered.

I just now heard the sad news of the passing of my dear friend Tasha. It is difficult to accept our loss of such a great and beautiful friend. Words escape me to express properly my sincerest condolences to Robert and her family. Tasha and I worked together at CN Rail, and we become good friends and had many wonderful conversations at lunch on life. I even named my youngest daughter after her. On her leaving CN, I presented her with my necktie that she always commented on and saying good bye then is just as difficult in saying good bye now. I am forever grateful our paths crossed and I will cherish my memories of her. God bless her.

I had the very good fortune to sit in the cubicle next to Tasha's for several years in the late 1980s, at CN Rail. Every day, we (and another cell-mate, Mike) would talk through the partitions while we (allegedly) worked on the railway. When the topic got too interesting, as happened often, we would stand up and talk over the tops of the partitions. Those were fabulous times, and I learned a lot from her. Hugs to Robert, a great hugger.

I too met Tasha in the early 90's at Montreal High School where we played badminton every Wednesday. And I too hated playing with her. She was just so good! So energetic! And on top of it she was so friendly! I hate people like that.

Then later, some 25 years later in fact, she invited a few of us for an evening of Mahjong, which I had never played, but which she so patiently explained the rules. She also provided dinner, and her excellent home-made wine ... I began to really like this person after all. We promised to meet for mahjong regularly in the fall and winter. This was July 2017. A few nights later we went to LaRonde, and of course I watched as she went on many rides I would not dare go on ..

She was adventurous, and lived life to the fullest and now, selfishly, I feel sad that we will not be getting together again ...

Dear Robert and family of Tasha,

My sincere sympathies for your loss. Tasha is a wonderful person, who will remain in my heart forever. Just the thought of talking with her makes me happy. Her live-life-to-the-fullest spirit is contagious. I saw her at ASAC in June, just before she was to receive her research award, and we laughed and laughed and laughed. I will hold on to that memory forever.
