Ted Carey, age 95, of 620 Sarah Simpson Road, Iva, passed away on Thursday, May 17, 2018, at the Rainey Hospice House. Born in Franklin County, GA, on May 6, 1923, he was the son of the late Webb O. Carey and the late Sallie Maude Carey. A retired farmer, Ted proudly served in the US Navy during WW II. He was a founding member and CEO of the Grove Community Volunteer Fire Department and was of the Baptist Faith.

Survivors include a son, Albert G. Carey and his wife, Minja, of California, MD; four daughters, Vivian Leigh Knight of Hull, GA, Diane Lollis of Starr, SC, Susan Carey Legnetti of Greensboro, NC, and Amanda Kaye Carey of Anderson. Also surviving are numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.

Mr. Carey was preceded in death by two sons, the Richard Ted Carey and the late Ronald Carey who died in infancy. Mr. Carey was one of thirteen children with all his brothers and sisters preceding him in death. He is the last surviving member of his immediate family. He was twice married, first to the late Dorothy Roach Carey Norris, and then to the late Lula Burgess Carey until her death in 2004.

The family would like to thank the staff of Rainey Hospice house as well as Dr. Theresa Knoepp and Dr. Stephen Cayelli for the care provided Mr. Carey.

The funeral service to celebrate and honor the life of Ted Carey will be held on Sunday, May 20, 2018 at 1:30 p.m. in the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home, with Reverend Ed Hunsinger officiating. Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park. The family will be at the residence, and will receive friends at the McDougald Funeral Home on Saturday, May 19, 2018, from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m.
