Ted A Sander

Ted A. Sander, 77, passed away on Wednesday, December 13, 2023 in Newport News, Virginia. Memorial services will be held at Peninsula Memorial Park in Newport News at 11 a.m. Friday, December 29th.

Ted was born in Iowa and raised in Southern Colorado. He loved sports and only quit playing due to the passing of his youth. Channeling this energy, he poured himself into work caused by the demands of the United States Air Force and travelled extensively throughout the Pacific but highlighted by his tour(s) in Korea. At the end of his military career, he enjoyed travelling though Alaska, Canada, Greenland, and Iceland and jokingly boasted about being on "top of the world" during his visits above the Arctic Circle. Later as a Civil Servant his travels guided him though the Carribean, Central and South America and farther out to the Azores. He would say, "Not too bad for a DooWopper from Pueblo, Colorado!"

Ted's focus later in life centered around his Granddaughter. Keeping a close eye on the things she chose to get involved in such as swimming, gymnastics, dance, and volleyball. His comments were that she performs them all with grace and dignity. . . and beauty!

We grieve his death as he is irreplaceable but celebrate his life and accomplishments, all while serving his country and while raising a son as a single father.

Those left to honor his memory include his son, Warren, and daughter in-law, Yoonji; granddaughter Elsie Mae; sister Susan; brother Richard; nieces and nephews and many wonderful close friends. Edna Mae Sander, his Mother, preceded him in death and has prepared a welcoming committee in celebration of his arrival.

Pops, as we call him, spend untold hours with music. Many of our favorite memories are spinning records together and debating a selection for the jukebox. Although he loved all type of music, he considered himself a "DooWopper" and a devout fan of Dion as a solo artist and with the Belmonts, the Del Satins, the Wanderers, and all others. We turned the jukebox on for you Pops. Dion and the Belmonts sounded great!
