Terence Robinson Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jan. 7, 2025.
Terence "Terry" Richard Robinson, 40, of East Kensington, Philadelphia, died unexpectedly at home on December 27th, 2024. Born in Meadowbrook, PA, Terry emerged from the womb and immediately began cramming more life into each day than most people can in a year. Upon graduating from Neshaminy High School (where he joined the most clubs, earned the most AP credits, threw legendary bonfires, and once accidentally exploded his own bedroom), Terry spent several years working in medical device manufacture. After earning a degree in Actuarial Science from Temple University, Terry worked at JLT Re, followed by five years as AVP at Old Republic Specialty Insurance Underwriters. He was Chair of the Reinsurance Research Working Group, an Associate of the Casualty Actuarial Society, and one exam short of Fellowship. If there's a silver lining to his death (there is not), it's that he no longer needs to study for Exam 9.

Terry was a devoted lifelong member of Scouts BSA. In addition to being an Eagle Scout, Terry was a camp leader, Scout volunteer, and member of the Order of the Arrow (Scouting's "National Honor Society"). He could survive in the wilderness, identify birds, convince teenagers to care about ecological succession, and whip up dozens of mini pizzas at a moment's notice. After engaging in above-and-beyond acts of generosity (which he did frequently), Terry would simply say, "A Scout is helpful."

Terry pursued hobbies like a starving hawk on a distracted rodent. He was the passionate, insightful, occasionally mischievous co-host of Mage: The Podcast, Pain in the Dice, and Systematic Understanding of Everything. He was a writer for Onyx Path Publishing, citizen planner for the American Planning Association, and member of the Savoy Opera Company. He flew drones, collected art books, and installed shelves on every vertical surface that stood still for long enough. He photographed hundreds of weddings and events, generated a Wonka-esque stream of baked goods, and took road trips intense enough to be featured in Mad Max movies.

Most of all: Terry loved. He loved people, connection, curiosity, banter, and wonder. He loved American Modernists, his solar panels, and Monster Zero Ultra. He furiously loved his family, friends, and all but two coworkers. He loved being alive. He should have been able to do it for a thousand more years.

He believed that, despite how often we step on our own feet while attempting to do so, humanity could be truly, breathtakingly great.

He was predeceased by his father Richard Robinson, and survived by his endlessly-adoring wife Julia Robinson Skochko, as well as his mother Maura Robison (nee Diamond), brother Ryan Robinson (Amanda), nephew Finn Robinson, stepchild Avery Markow, and a plethora of aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. We will never forget him. We will never stop loving him.

A celebration of Terry's life will be held on Saturday, January 18th, at 11:00 AM, at Ockanickon Scout Reservation (5787 State Park Rd, Pipersville, PA 18947). The service will be followed by a repast. Details here: https://tinyurl.com/terryrobinson

Terry worked for me in a medical device testing lab on and off for 9 years (on when he was available, off when he was on staff at our Scout summer camp. Who knew that testing fart filters in colostomy bags could be so much fun? Terry brought humor and intense focus to everything he did, whether it was teaching our Boy Scout troop "escape & evade" techniques at a campout or designing and building his own sous vide machine and sharing the delicious outcomes with the lab or introducing the atlatl as an activity at a Boy Scout Camporee. It was just damned fun being with Terry, any time anywhere.

I loved it when Terry and Julia visited us in CO this fall. Seeing them together was a beautiful experience. So sorry for the loss of a beautiful soul.
