Teresa Stoughton Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Apr. 26, 2025.
Teresa June Stoughton (née Legenski), 91, passed away peacefully on April 11, 2025, in Fort Washington, Pennsylvania.

Born on June 5, 1933, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Teresa June lived a life marked by resilience, strength, and a deep love for her family and the natural world. She began her career with the federal government at the Internal Revenue Service in Philadelphia and later retired from the Department of the Army's Bureau of Finance and Accounting in Letterkenny, where she served in a civilian capacity.

Teresa inspired her family to be strong. She is lovingly remembered by and leaves behind her son, John Robert Stoughton Jr.; her daughter, Eileen Joyce Peacock; her grandchildren, Heather Marie Peacock and Mark David Peacock; her great-grandsons, Walter Stewart Flores and Jonathan David Flores; and their father Walter Flores, as well as her only surviving sibling her sister MaryAnn Munyon; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Teresa was predeceased by her beloved husband, John Robert Stoughton Sr.; her siblings Edward, Harry, Eileen, and Patsy; her mother Margaret (Savegeau) Goodwin; her father Benjamin Legenski; her stepfather Harry Goodwin, and son Mark Leonard Stoughton who died in 1973.

Throughout her younger years, Teresa embraced an active lifestyle filled with adventure and community involvement. She had a passion for archery and was honored as queen of the Pennsylvania Bowhunters Festival. Her love for nature led to many canoe trips, and hikes often accompanied by the goats she cherished. Teresa also played a significant role in the Women of the Moose organization as a key officer and Senior Regent. In this capacity, she visited Mooseheart-a home for children operated by the Loyal Order of Moose-demonstrating her commitment to service and compassion for others.

Later in life, Teresa found great joy at her mountain home in Horse Valley, Upper Strasburg. There she spent hours watching birds through large picture windows that framed views of multiple feeders she kept well-stocked-especially for hummingbirds that delighted her so much.

Above all else, Teresa will be remembered for the profound love she held for her grandchildren Heather and Mark and especially for her great-grandsons Walter and Jonathan. Her enduring spirit lives on through them and all who were fortunate enough to know her.

A memorial will be held to honor Teresa's life.

May Teresa's memory bring comfort to those who knew and loved her.

My heart goes out to you and your family during your time of loss and sorrow. I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers. Some of my fondest memories of Aunt June were the times we spent with herself and Uncle Bob up in the mountains. I can't forget all of the many family gatherings either. Many fond memories to look back on. For this, I am quite grateful.
