Terradan Landchild "Terry" Sagewynd

I was saddened to learn just today (12/26/2023) Terradan had passed away 12 years ago. Terradan and I worked as temp employees for Gifford Pinchot Nation Forest for the 1980 and 1981 summer work seasons, Chelatchie Prairie in 1980 and near White Salmon in 1981. Terradan was a geologist, and I was his humble geotechnical assistant. Back in those days, our coworkers and I knew him as Terry Childress. Terradan taught me lots and we had fun during the two seasons we worked together. For example, we watched Mt. St. Helens erupt at the end of our workday on August 7, 1980. We also explored lava caves Falls Creek and Big Caves in mid-Summer 1981. Those were good times I will always cherish.

I hope you are resting easy, ol´ pal, free of pain from that insidious cancer. I feel bad we lost track of each other. When it is my time to sing with the angel band on that beautiful shore, I will be sure to look you up. I will look forward to tipping some Rainier beers, talking about old times, and exploring more lava caves with you. Sleep well, Terradan, until we meet again.

Mr. Sagewynd taught our Biology class my sophomore year (2009). He always was kind, funny, and enthusiastic about biology. He never let anyone fall behind in the class, and he always had something new and interesting to tell us, he will be missed.

Terradan was a good man with a gentle spirit that had a calming effect upon those who were in his presence. I wish I had known him longer.

Terradan was an outstanding promoter of the sport of orienteering and a loyal scouter. We both attended the same Wood Badge training in 1990. He will be missed.
