Terrence Denevan Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on May 3, 2024.

Terrence Lee Denevan, also known affectionately as Terry, passed away on April 7th 2024 in Santa Clara, California. He is survived by his wife, Carol Lee Denevan, his older brother William, younger brother David, and 3 children. Terry was the proud father of Monica, Shawn, and Robin. Additionally, Terry was a cherished grandfather to his grandson, Teancom Denevan.

Terry was born on June 6th 1939 in Long Beach, California, and embarked on a life full of service. He served in the Navy and was stationed in Moffett Field. After completing Active Duty, Terry earned a master's degree in instructional media and received his teaching credentials. For the next 35 years, Terry taught elementary school in the Santa Clara Unified School District. His first 5 years of teaching were spent at Millikin Elementary School, beforing finding his home at Scott Lane Elementary School for the duration of his teaching career.

Beyond his professional achievements, Terry was deeply committed to community service. He devoted countless hours to Beautify San Jose, a project aimed at enhancing the city's public spaces and fostering neighborhood pride.

Terry's passion and accomplishment was the work he put into his home in Willow Glen, originally a 1938 900 sq ft San Jose cottage house. Over his life time he converted the home into a unique 3,000 sq ft passive solar home complete with a lush sunken garden, elaborate koi pond, water fall, and deck overlooking the Guadalupe River.

In his later years, Terry found a passion for writing; specifically a collection of short autobiographical stories and one novel. He self-published 4 books, leaving a literary legacy for his friends and loved ones to cherish.

Terry enjoyed playing chess with his son, and often had spirited poker games with his brothers and childhood friends.

A celebration of life we be held on June 8th from 1-2pm.
