Terry Hampton Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Sep. 17, 2024.
Terry Reed Hampton, known affectionately as Turbo, Turk, Donk, and Turkey Bird, passed away on September 15, 2024, in Farragut, Tennessee, at the age of 52. Born in Cleveland, Tennessee, Terry spent his life overcoming challenges from a young age due to chronic ailments and dedicated himself to living a life full of purpose and passion.

Terry was a man of many talents and interests, most notably his career as a skilled boat builder. He took pride in his deep knowledge of gel coat, fiberglass, molds, finishing, detailing, repairing, and building boats. His hobbies included tinkering with cars, riding motorcycles, watching NASCAR, and spending cherished moments with his family and grandchildren. Terry was known for his unwavering determination, always seeing a project through once he started it. His integrity and dedication made him a unique and beloved figure in his community.

Education played a significant role in Terry's early life, having attended Coker Creek Elementary School and Tellico Plains High School, where the foundations of his enduring resilience were laid.

Terry is survived by his loving family, including his mother, Wanda Armstrong; step-father, Sam Armstrong; twin brother, Jerry Hampton; sister-in-law, Lisa Hampton; sister, Deloris Smawley; brother, Billy Mason; son, Michael Hampton; daughter-in-law, Ashley Freeman; daughter, Ashley Smith; son-in-law, Logan Smith; grandchildren, Briston Hampton, Nicholas Hampton, and Moriah Smith; and numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his father, Odell Hampton; paternal grandparents, A.C and Ozella Hampton; maternal grandparents, Fred and Sybil Wakefield; granddaughter, Hannah Smith; and baby brothers, Michael and Daniel Hampton.

In lieu of traditional funeral arrangements, Terry's family will host a private Celebration of Life, respecting his wish for loved ones to cherish time together during life rather than in mourning. Terry advocated for more meaningful gatherings among friends and family as part of his lasting legacy.

Those wishing to honor Terry's memory can make charitable contributions to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, supporting research and treatment efforts for Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia, a cause close to his heart. Terry's commitment to helping others continues to inspire all who knew him.

I check here often for memories posted of my father. It helps with the grieving process to see so many who send their condolences. I want to add- since my father's medical decisions seem to be so important to others- Dad was not a candidate for "the" vaccine because he had other health problems that kept him from being able to receive that vaccine (along with several other types of medications and "preventative" medications) In honor of my dad, Terry Hampton, the best thing we can do is stop blaming politics for the reason we are all divided. In honor of my dad, let's show compassion when it is due and live our lives the way that we choose to live our life, without casting judgment or making assumptions about people's lives and health when we don't know what has happened. Ride your motorcycle, call your mother, and spend time with your family. That is what my father would have wanted you to do.

If you can believe it I´ve known Terry since 1997! All my best to his family. Please in his honor get vaccinated against Covid - I wish he had done the same. Like I said I´ve known him a long time and I wish he would´ve listened to the doctors, scientists, immunologists, etc. and not let politics affect his health decisions. RIP. Sorry for your great loss. -Greg

Birth. We were born together and I was there when he went to be with his Grandbaby in heaven. Terry would always have a grin when he was up to doing something sneaky. He couldn't hide his emotions very well. He loved playing video games with me and screwing up on purpose just to tick me off. He got the biggest laugh about it. He thought I took it too serious i guess. The thing that I will always remember about Terry was the kindness of his heart. He was always so happy to get to help someone in need. Weither he had the money or he had to struggle himself he would do anything for anyone that needed him. He cared about everyone's happiness. Always wanted to make people laugh. We enjoyed talking on the phone while nascar races were on. We'd talk for hours about the race and other things along the way. When the race was over he'd always say he had stuff to do that I took up all his time lol jokingly. He loved coming up to stay at my house to watch my dogs while my wife and I would go on vacation. He said it was his own vacation and he loved our dogs and all dogs for that matter. He was so upset when he got sick that he wouldn't be able to come up. We had taken him on several trips as well. Charleston, Kiawah, several nascar races. But the one he truly liked the best was street outlaws. He got to get autographs and talk to the crew he's only seen on TV. It was such a huge deal for him to experience that. I'm glad we had those times together. I miss him so much already. If I was down he'd pick me up. he always told me how proud of me he was that I was able to achieve with my life. He had a special place in his heart for my wife Lisa. He loved her brutal honesty. And he loved my daughter Jerlissa I know that if we're me that had went on to heaven he'd be here right now helping my wife and daughter through this time. He was an amazing person with a gift of love. That he shared to the best of his ability.

I am so sorry for your loss. You all are in my thoughts and prayers. I went to school with Terry and had lost touch until he moved in my neighborhood. He was a treasure to have while he was here. Always helping everyone when he could. He will be greatly missed.

From gamer to friend. All of the times that I can remember Terry we were laughing and having a good time whether it be playing video games. For meeting for lunch at Los margaritas. I may be a man of few words but the times playing video games with him and his brother were some of the best memories I have

Terry was always there especially if I needed help working on our house, my truck,or just anything. Also, he was the only person I've ever known who was NEVER too busy for his grandkids. He'd say bring em on every single time. He loved them and they loved him. And so did I. I already miss him.

I have so many memories with you, Daddy. I have always cherished every one of them. You dancing with me through the house letting me put my feet on yours as you carried me through the house swaying to whatever songs would play on the radio. I love you so much, Dad. I don't want to do life without you. I don't know how I'm going to do life without you but I'm going to start by finishing everything you started. I love you. Please visit me often.
