Terry Ellen Hughes

Salinas - Terry Hughes passed away unexpectedly on April 26th, 2025. Born and raised in Salinas, she remained a lifelong resident of the area. Over the years, she worked in customer service and office management roles at a variety of companies. She lived in Spreckels for over 20 years, where she raised her son and lived much of her adult life. She was known for her ability to connect with people instantly, her willingness to always help others without hesitation, and her way of turning even the most mundane moments into something fun.

Terry had lots of energy and did everything with no time to spare, except when it came to her mom. Her devotion to Minnie Shostak knew no bounds. She made the trip to Napa countless times to check on her, provide comfort, or just hang out. She was fun, funny, and great company; leaving an unforgettable path of love, kindness, and friendship in her wake.

Terry was a loving mother to her son, Dean Hughes, and a treasured sister to Dan (and Sheila) Shostak, Julie Shostak, and Eve (and Steve) Pensak. She will be missed by her aunt, Rachel Friedman, and her uncle, Harris (and Johanna) Nussbaum. She leaves behind beloved nieces and nephews: Shylah (and Guy) Blatt, Chloe Shostak, Maxx Shostak, Zack Pensak, and Gabriel Pensak.

Terry will be dearly missed by her former husband, Vann Hughes, who remained an important part of her life, as well as the many friends she made throughout her life in Salinas. She was preceded in death by her parents Minnie and Larry Shostak, the former of whom she cared for during her final days.
