Condolences to his family. To his widow, I love you. In the 2 times I met him his smile was the biggest and brightest. He welcomed me and my daughter into his home and made sure we were fed. When we met the second time he made sure that we all were comfortable. Every time I called he also said hi.

My heartfelt condolences to the families of Theartris, affectionately known as Chilly on the campus of the University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES). It was such a pleasure to reconnect with Chilly at the UMES 2024 Homecoming Weekend. I had a chance to really have a wonderful conversation with him and his wife Donna when we shared a table at our Class of `74 50th Golden Class Reunion Celebration during Homecoming. He was so happy to be in attendance and he reminded me of the BIG natural Afro hairstyle I wore in the 70´s and pointed out my 70´s pictures scrolling on the screens around the room. He said "there you are Sunshine!" (which was my campus nickname.) You will be missed physically from the Hawk Family, but you will always be remembered fondly.
Rest in Peace Chilly

My first and best mentor, it wasn´t until years later his words resonated with me. I am always grateful to Mr Childress and his family for always treating me like a member. Mr Childress was a beacon and he shined his light on you, you were better for it. May your soul rest peacefully.

Where do you begin to talk about the wonderful memories that we have of Theartris Childress? (We called him "Chilly" at The University of Maryland Eastern Shore)? He wasn't just our friend, he was our brother, and he was Uncle Chilly to our daughter. We spent many hours together laughing, sharing meals, playing cards, talking about the kids and their antics - just being family on the east coast. Our last time together was at the UMES Homecoming in November, 2024. We were so glad to see his big smile and to hear his infectious laughter. Thank you, Chilly, for being one of the BEST brothers we could have ever have wished for. Until we meet again,
Roy

Theartris and I met at Proviso East HS 1966. Shared 4 years of wrestling, choir and classes together. I am so blessed to have reconnected a few years ago which enabled us to reminisce and make new memories. Rest in peace Brother.

I worked with Skip in Atlanta and we used to share a lunch sometimes. It was a friendship I treasured and he was a wonderful man. My condolences to his family. I loved his story of showing up to a football team event one time despite never having played professionally because he so looked the part. What a kind and funny man. I miss those great lunches.

I remember when I first became a teacher and Skip gifted me this handmade piece of art that his wonderful wife Donna made. It has a new home now at my current office at IUN. I´ll frame it and put it on my wall as a continuance memory of my good friend/big brother. RIP Skip

To the Childress family; I am so sorry for your loss. Skip was like a big brother to me and he kept me grounded when I worked at the high school. Donna Skip loved you and you guys family to the moon and back. I loved Skip´s cool and mellow demeanor, and how he would make me stay focused when I was getting my graduate degree. Wow! What a great all around man he was. Please accept my sincere condolences to each of you and I pray that God gives you the strength and comfort to keep moving forward as Skip would have wanted. My heart may be broken However, I know my friend is resting well in heaven. RIP Skip. My lifelong friend
