Malcolm Burdette Ryder, 97, of Sarasota, FL, a sweet, kind, generous, intelligent man, formerly of Long Island, NY, and Venice, FL, died on May 18, 2015. He was born at Blue Point, NY. His wife Helen, a social worker, his sister Mrs. William John Zebrowski, of Patchogue, Long Island, and niece Nancy Cook and husband George preceded him in death. Malcolm and his wife moved to Venice in 1974 where he lived until moving to Bay Village 10 years ago. He was employed by the Long Island Railroad where he was manager at the Pennsylvania Station and supervisor of stations. He is survived by cousin Phyllis Trypuc of Patchogue; nieces and nephews Cindy Totten, Mimi Longhead, Chester Babst III of Pittsburg; and elsewhere, Paul Campbell, Robert Campbell, Donald Campbell, Kim Campbell; and friend, Betty Pike of Sarasota. He attended the Blowing Rock Methodist Church and Pine Shores Presbyterian Church. He was a member of Venice Lodge No. 301 F & AM, and Sahib Shriners. York Rite memberships included Sarasota, Manatee River and Poinciana Chapters; Venice, Bradenton and Ft. Myers Councils; Trinity Commandery, Pentagon York Rite College and was distinguished Knight York Cross of Honor, Knight Templar Cross of Honor, and the Order of the Purple Cross.
Memorial Services will be held June 1st at 11:00 AM at Bay Village, 8400 Vamo Road, Sarasota, FL 34231, with burial in Patchogue, Long Island. Farley Funeral Homes & Crematory is handling arrangements.
