WIGGINS
The Lord called Thelma Maxine Wiggins home to be with Him on Tuesday, May 31, at the age of 92. Maxine was living at the Dove's Nest where she suffered a stroke. She was later transferred to the Vitas Hospice Unit where she was cared for until the end of her life. Maxine was born in Pleasant Plain, Iowa on January 17, 1919 to William Earl Balderson and Zora Violet Hadley Balderson, both deceased. She attended Penn No. 5 School from first grade through seventh grade and graduated from Richland High School in 1936, She was raised in the Friends Church in Iowa and later baptized at age 88 at Concordia Lutheran Church in San Antonio, Texas. After graduation from high school, she attended Chillicothe Business College with her high school sweetheart, James Kenneth Wiggins. After completing their business courses, Maxine and Kenneth were married in Houston on July 7, 1939. Maxine began her career as a production secretary with Pan American Production Co. in Houston in 1950. She was later employed at Slick Field with Continental Oil Co. in 1955, retiring after more than 25 years while working in their Corpus Christi office. After retiring, she moved to Kerrville and worked in the YO Ranch gift shop until she was nearly 80 years old. She moved to the Timberhill Villa Retirement Home in San Antonio in 2004 to be near her daughter and family until a year ago when she moved to the Dove's Nest. Maxine enjoyed playing bridge, dancing and all things purple. She is survived by her son Fred Wiggins and wife Marion; one daughter, Carolyn Gardner and her husband David; two granddaughters, Laurie Wiggins and Sara Gardner; one grandson, Clint Gardner and his wife Antoinette; and three great-grandchildren, David, Jake and Ava Gardner. The family would like to thank her caregivers at the Dove's Nest and the doctors, nurses and the chaplain at Vitas for their loving care.
