WILKES-BARRE — The Schiowitz/Greenfield family are awash in tears and yet grateful for the blessing that Therese Schiowitz (Terry) was to all. Terry left us suddenly with much more to do. Her family considered her the kindest soul we knew. Terry loved family, literature, her dogs, all things Parisian, and taking charge of a good deed without fanfare or reward. To a fault, she never had to be asked to do a task her loved ones needed. She sometimes groused about her 100 year old home but loved it. While her athletics were confined to a swimming pool and Terry didn't care for competition, she learned and conversed in the family's varied sports and supported all. We all wanted her with us, so a bike ride or kayak run on vacation in Lewes Delaware prompted the rare negative word and occasional collision, but she persevered.
Terry was born in Wilkes-Barre, at home, about three blocks from her current home. Her precipitous entry into the world and travelling challenges prompted her slogan and a nascent autobiography, "Comings and Goings Were Never my Strongpoint."
Therese was the daughter of Charles Greenfield and Dolores Kane Greenfield, who predeceased her, as did sister Carol Elia, sister-in-law Jane Schiowitz, and father-in-law Dr. Albert Schiowitz.
Terry is survived by husband Dr. Mark Schiowitz, and her three sons who remain a constant source of pride, Colin Conrad, Cory Conrad, Joshua Schiowitz, and daughters-in-law, Sara Conrad and Kimia Rahmati. She is also survived by brother Charles Greenfield, mother-in-law Jean Schiowitz, and brother-in-law Jim Elia. The Jones/Roughsedge, Kaufer and Thompson families have been so intertwined with our family that they must be named here, as well.
Terry was an honors graduate of E.L. Meyers High School, Wilkes-Barre Mercy Hospital School of Nursing, and The Wilkes-Barre General Hospital School of Anesthesia. She was a fine critical care nurse who then embarked on an outstanding career in anesthesia. Most of her years were spent at WBGH. She was proud of crafting and teaching the neuro-anesthesia curriculum for the WBGH anesthesia school. Her patients were entertained, and then cared for lovingly and soundly.
Terry was the originator of non-profit Wilkes-Barre Area Save our Schools and was currently a member of the Wilkes-Barre Area School Board.
Terry Schiowitz is a woman of valor, clothed with strength and grace, who laughs until the last day.
Terry would be honored if those that are able donate a unit of blood to the Red Cross, a direct service to her community.
Private funeral arrangements have been made through Daniel J. Hughes Funeral & Cremation Service, Wilkes-Barre.
There will not be formal visiting hours, but when emotions have eased, a service is planned to memorialize and celebrate our beloved Terry.

We are so heartbroken to have learned about Terry´s sudden departure from this world, in which was a much better place with her. We were neighbors for almost 10ths before moving to Hanover Twp. To have known Terry, was to love her. What a wonderful, kind, gentle, and generous soul she had. We send our heartfelt condolences to her husband Mark, and their 3 sons and daughter´s in-laws. You all are in our prayers. God has gained another Angel. Rest in sweet peace, Terry, you will definitely be missed.

This overwhelming, shocking news has had a profound impact on so very many, whose lives Terry had touched, but in particular the medical community. We have lost a wonderful member, and she will ever be remembered. My sincere condolences to Mark, the boys and the Schiowitz/Greenfield families. RIP Terry.
