Thomas Carey Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Feb. 5 to Feb. 6, 2023.
Thomas E. Carey, of Hernando, FL and Williston, VT, formerly of Natick, MA, died peacefully at his home in Florida on January 24th. He was the son of the late Thomas A. Carey and Eleanor (Connors) Carey McNicholas.

Born on December 8,1949 in Somerville, MA, Tommy grew up in Brighton, attending our Lady of Presentation Grammar School and graduating from Mt. St. Charles Academy in Woonsocket, RI. He was a proud veteran of the United States Navy. He spent his career working for the Massachusetts State Treasury, the Massachusetts State Lottery Commission and Suffolk Downs.

Tommy was a born competitor. He was happiest on a rink, a field, a court, or a course in the company and camaraderie of his family and friends. He was known for his quick wit, winning smile and a legendary sense of humor.

Tommy loved his family and friends above all else. His loyalty meant you had a life-long friendship and that he would always be in your corner regardless of circumstance.

Tommy is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Mary Louise (Hamilton), his daughter Meredith of Quincy, MA, his son Neil and his wife Hannah of South Burlington, VT and his cherished grandchildren, Fionna and Hamish. He also leaves behind his sister Bonnie (Virginia) Kelly and her husband Rick, his brother in-law Terry Hamilton and his wife Patricia, as well as many loving nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.

A funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, February 10th at 11:00 AM at St. Linus Church, 119 Hartford Street, Natick, MA . An hour of Visitation will be held at 10:00 AM prior to Mass. Family and friends are invited to attend.

In lieu of flowers, please make donations in Tommy's name to the John D. Langley Foundation, 10 Common Street, P.O. Box #4, Walpole, MA 02081.

Our Dearest Mary Lou, Meredith, Neil, Hannah, Fionna, Hamish, Bonnie, Rick and all of your families...we have soooo many wonderful memories with you and Tommy! 37+ years as neighbors in 2 different homes, kids growing up together, birthdays, weddings, trips to Florida and Myrtle Beach, and oh, those fun Christmas Eves! We are heartbroken he is gone, but know the stories, love and laughter will remain for generations. RIP, Tommy.
