We are sad to hear our cousin, Tom has passed on. He was one of our older cousins of ours on his mothers side. We always looked up to him. He will be sadly missed. He was a really good guy, to his parents, aunts and uncles and especially his family. Although he did move away from RI, he always looked in on my parents we he came home for a visit. We went to see him at West Point and saw him play hockey in Providence. What a grand wedding he had (I was an altar boy). And I remember when the kids started to come along. Life is too short and we need to savor every day. My sympathies go out to Diane and the family. Please keep in touch (I and some of the cousins are on Face Book).

To Diane and the entire Carroll family,
I want to offer my most sincere condolences to you. I had the pleasure of knowing and working with Tom for almost 20 years. He was one of the most competent, dedicated and professional engineers that I have ever encountered. A lot of engineering managers at his level attempt to motivate and lead by lecturing, but Tom led by quiet example instead. Rather than telling us, he showed us how to perform in our field by always adhering to the very highest level of professional ethics and honesty. I will miss him as a friend and as a fellow bridge engineer.

To the Carroll family,
Seems when someone passes on we go back in our minds to earlier times...As one of the 23 cousins in the Carroll Clan that gathered in Millville every Sunday with Grammy amd Grampy Carroll, memories are so vivid of General Tom commanding all his troops in fort building and on going "mayhem" out in the woods behind the house...R.I.P Tommy!!

Diane, Mike, Jill, Molly and Shannon, I am very sorry to hear of Tom's passing, but I know that he got a lot from life and used his time on this earth well. I was always amazed by his mountain climbing adventures--hearing of Denali, Maroon Bells and the Alps! I still have a photo on my desk at work of a group of us from BRW, including Tom and Jill, on top of 14,007' Mt. Huron, during one of the annual peak climbs that Tom organized. And I appreciated the virtual tour of the Boundary Waters that Tom provided me at your house before my own trip there.
Since Tom was my boss, I knew him from the professional world, but I would never have gone to work for him in the first place if he wasn't such a dedicated outdoorsman and strong hiking partner, as well as a respected engineer. Keep in mind that there are monuments to Tom in downtown Denver--I will think of him whenever I travel down 15th Street in LoDo. We will all miss him. He is probably starting a major bridge project in heaven right now!

Dear Diane and family,
I have almost no words to describe my sorrow nor my condolences to you. Tom was kind, generous, funny, determined and a joy to be with. He was a mentor and a friend to me in the mountains and at home - and I am a better man for having met and learned from him. He is, already, sorely missed.

Dear Diane, Shannon, Mike, Jill and Molly,

What wonderful memories I have of your family in New Hope and Diane's help and leadership with my first political campaign for the Minnesota House. I wouldn't have won without the great start I received from you. I also treasure the visits with you in Colorado. I have great memories of Shannon's wedding in Littleton and Molly's in Massachusetts. How proud your dad was of your happiness. Mike was a welcome guest in my family as he completed high school at Armstrong and Jill was a great hostess for her family in Colorado. I will never forget the day you all drove away from my house after Mike graduated. I recall I gave you a book I treasured on Friendship and also the most recent copy of some gossip newspaper to balance out tears and laughter.

I love you so.

Your friend,

Ann

Six years wasn't long enough, but that's how long I knew Tom. We were colleagues at Matrix. The words honor, faith, integrity, spirit, competence, and joy are what I would use to describe Tom. His smile was infectious; his knowledge and leadership were awesome. I will miss him, but rejoice that he is with his savior. John 14:1-4.

I knew Tom as a co-worker and an associate. He was the consumate professional and I will miss him dearly as a mentor and colleague, but mostly I'll miss him as a friend. The world has lost a pillar of strength and fortitude. What a wonderful example he was to all of us.

May peace be with his family and loved ones during this time of sadness and loss.
