Thomas Davis IV Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Mar. 13, 2024.
Thomas Frederick Davis, IV died March 4, 2024, surrounded by his family, at Manzanita Nursing Home in Sacramento, CA, following a lengthy illness. He was born December 24, 1953, in Clarksdale, MS, to the late Thomas Frederick Davis, III and Vernon Patty Fitzsimons Davis. He was the second of their five children and was known affectionately as "Bubba" to his family. He was "Tom" to the rest of the world. As a youth, Tom attended St George's Episcopal Church in Clarksdale. He graduated from Clarksdale High School in 1971, and moved to Meridian, MS, shortly thereafter. He loved music and played guitar with several bands in Meridian and later in the Santa Cruz and San Jose areas of California, where he lived for over 40 years. He also enjoyed collecting Wizard of Oz memorabilia. He had worked at Prax Air (now Linde Gas) for several years before his health forced him to retire. Tom was preceded in death by his father, Thomas F. Davis, III. His survivors include his mother, Vernon Patty F. Davis of Columbus, MS; and his wife, Nancy Davis, and their children, Trey Davis and Allyson Davis, all of Sacramento, CA. He is also survived by his first wife, Christy Davis of Pocatello, ID, their son, John Davis (Kelly) and grandson, Chase, of Tillamook, OR, and their daughter, Jennifer Davis Rebiskie (Ryan) and grandchildren, Wilson, Carson, and Andrea of San Ramon, CA. His survivors also include his sisters, Mary Davis Brown (Danny) of Columbus, MS; Patty Davis Lyons (Tim) of Inlet Beach, FL; Georgia Davis Edington (Denny) of Merigold, MS; and his brother, Bruce Davis (Elaine) of Soquel, CA. A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Uncle Tom, there´s so much I will miss about you. That reassuring smile, the eye roll when they weren´t looking, the way you lit up behind your guitar, THE ABSOLUTE BEST UNCLE TOM SAYINGS/JOKES EVER IN THE WORLD. You had a way of making everyone feel included, loved, cared for. It hurts my heart these exist only in my memories now, but it´s not lost on me how blessed I am to have them. You took me in as your own with unwavering love, wore your heart on your sleeve, and I´m forever grateful for your presence in my life.

If I could go back and live another day with you, we would be poolside with the family on a hot summer day, iced sodas, radio blasting, without a care in the world. You´d be tinkering around, cleaning the pool, feeling the music, in your element, pure joy on your face being surrounded by family and friends. And I´d tell you to soak it up, that these are the moments that count, they fly by, and that I´m so thankful to have a bonus uncle like you. I love you always, Uncle Tom.

"Pain throws your heart to the ground
Love turns the whole thing around
No, it won't all go the way it should
But I know the heart of life is good"

Dearest Nancy, Trey and Ally - I wish you comfort and peace during this incredibly difficult time for you. ** I have so many wonderful memories of time spent with Tom while he, Nancy and Trey lived in Santa Cruz. Tom was always ready to lend a hand and smile. He and Nancy helped us move into our new home and then it was bittersweet to help them move to Sacramento to their new home. When we had unloaded everything after a very long day, Tom was ready to start unpacking and setting up the house! His ability to laugh and simply enjoy life is how I will always remember him. With love, Juliet

Dad, you gave me and my friends such a great childhood that I will never forget. You were always so easy going and fun to be around. I was going through old photos of us recently and found a photo from a few years ago when I came to visit you. I snuck cupcakes over to your house to give you one without telling anyone because I knew you weren´t allowed any. But now I look at this photo, and I wish I could give you a million more. We had such a great visit that day and I will forever cherish that silly memory. Thank you for being such a great example of what a father should be, I will miss you forever <3

Me and all the neighborhood kids always loved Tom, he´d always allow all us in the house to play Just Dance and chill.

This loving man was known as "Uncle Tom" to some of his biggest fans. Uncle Tom was my absolute favorite and the best uncle I could have imagined. He was so instrumental in my childhood, and I will forever cherish all of the amazing memories with him.
From the weekend SF trips, to the Oregon Christmas´ he always showed up for us all. It is embedded in my mind how much he loved and cherished my aunt Nancy. He was the perfect example of unconditional love. Uncle Tom had the best sense of humor and often I would find myself with stomach pains from so much laughing.
There won´t ever be a summer, a trip to Sacramento or a day that goes by that I will not think of all of the joy he brought to my life. I am proud of you Uncle Tom, for fighting so hard and for being the strong one for us all. I love you forever and always

He was great about making people feel comfortable, whether it was with jokes, or funny stories or those funny "Southernisms". He had such a great sense of humor! Trey got that from him, also.
