My deepest sympathies to the Drake family. I attended high school with some of his children and always had the utmost respect for Mr. Drake. He pulled me to the side one day and spoke some very encouraging words to me when my family was going through a difficult time. He did not have to do this, but he did, and to this day I thank him for his wisdom. I know that he will be truly missed.

My sincere sympathies are extended to all of you. When I was a reporter in Cullman, I grew to have a deep respect and adoration for Representative Drake. I was so appreciative to him for coming to me to break the story when he chose to retire from the Alabama Legislature. I am deeply thankful to have been able to call him a friend. Another Alabama legend is gone, but certainly not forgotten.
