The tyranny of distance and my poor communications have meant that Tom and I pretty much lost communications. Having said that, for many years Tom was my closest and dearest friend, and often, when something came up to remind me, I would again think fondly of those great years.
We met in 1959 at UCR, me with my hot rod Chevy and Tom with his spanking new Triumph. Although the love of car racing was the initial glue between us, we found that we both enjoyed each other's company over a wide range of activities. I spent countless hours in the passenger seat of his TR as he gradually converted me to a "more refined" form of fast cars. For me, it was a sad day when Tom headed off to dental school, But we did keep in touch for the occasional race day, or water skiing at Marc's place on the Colorado River. And he was my obvious choice as my Best Man at my 1964 wedding.
Living in the South Hemisphere for the past nearly 50 years hasn't diminished my happy memories of those wonderful years. Rest in peace Tom.
