In memory of
Courtney Winchester
May 20, 2009
I was shocked and saddened to hear of Crawford's passing. We were in school together from Jones Jr. High (Ms. Boteler's 7th grade homeroom) thru high school. And then the "Burton's" years. I have not seen him in a very long time (sadly). My thoughts and prayers are with the family, and may God's love surround you at this time as well.

Beth and I were saddened to hear of Crawford's passing. I have fond memories of tooling around with Crawford throughout the years. First on our bicycles and later in his "Z". I recall when Crawford received his first "English Racer" bicycle. He rode over to my house to show it to me. He was so proud. To this day, I can see his beaming face.
One of the wildest memories was when we were in high school. One Sunday afternoon, I was hanging out with a few friends in front of the Malloy's home on "Old Bay". Out of nowhere comes a Hunter Green Mack Truck heading right for us. Who the heck was this "Redneck"?You guessed it, it was Crawford. He had "borrowed" it from his dad's business to go cruising. Can you imagine, Crawford taking a leisurely drive in a Mack Truck like it was an everyday thing? He was having so much fun. Great times and great fun.
Crawford will be miss by all. Our hearts and prayers go out to his family.

I went to school with Crawford and I'm sad to hear of his passing. When I was growing up around the corner on 6th avenue we spent many hours together on fun kid stuff. He taught me the proper way to shine shoes, how to mix saltpeter and charcoal to make a neat fiery smoke bomb and much more that I'll never forget. When we were in high school together we used to ride around in north Laurel in his 280Z, he would go so fast around the corners it would give me chill bumps. He always had a unique dry personality and keen sense of humor. He was a much loved employee of my Grandfather Richard A. Burton Sr. and my Dad Dick and Uncle Billy for many years at Burton's Jewelers in Laurel.
He was a friend and I'll never forget our times together. My sympathies go out to his family.

We were heartbroken to hear of Crawford's passing. We've been neighbors for many years and have watched each other's children grow up and leave the nest. To the family we extend our deepest sympathies; and with all sincerity, Thomas and Melissa, if there is anything we can do to help you, please call on us. We'll miss your Dad's neighborly chats.

My heart goes out to Crawford's family and I will keep you all in my thoughts and prayers. Even though many years have gone by away from Laurel, there are many happy memories of the people from high school and Crawford was one of those memories.

I am so sorry to hear of Crawford's death. Our thoughts and prayers are with you at this time of sorrow. It is comforting to know that when Jesus friend Lazarus died, Jesus “groaned in the spirit and became trouble,” and shortly afterward he “gave way to tears.” – John 11: 33, 35
So Jesus understands our pain and grief.

I always thought it ironic that none of us Burton boys chose to follow in our parent's footsteps at Burton's Jewelers, but there was Crawford, loving every minute of it -- the perfect "son." I am heartened to hear his gemologist work continued, sad to hear of his death (too early, dude!) and heartened again to see he'd made a family. To them, who knew him as a man, I can only say that I have fond childhood memories of him hanging out with my two older brothers (Rick and Mart.) Crawford was much nicer to me than they were, frankly! (No offense, bros.) I have always remembered him for that "unconscious kindness."

Our families were always good friends, for generations. Crawford felt like one of my own boys during the time he spent at Burton's Jewelers. I am so saddened by his loss. My heart goes out to Melita and the rest of his family.

We lost a brother in Crawford. I was so happy to see him last summer at our class gatherings, it had been way too many years. All his friends will miss him.
