Thomas Gaffey Obituary
Born in Meriden on April 10, 1992, he had resided in Meriden his entire life. He graduated from Roger Sherman Elementary School and Thomas Edison Magnet School and was currently a student in his junior year, at H.C. Wilcox Technical School, in the Culinary Arts Program. He was president of the junior class and was a member of the Wilcox/middle school recruiting team and a member of the golf team. Tommy was employed by Huxley's Bookmark Café. He was a member of the Kiwanis Hi-Liters for some six years, was a junior counselor at Camp Cuno and was a member of the Boys and Girls Club, since age five. He was a recipient of the John Tylunas Jacket Award for outstanding service to the Boys and Girls Club. He was a bass guitar player, loved music, fishing and the beach, and was an avid N.Y. Giants and Yankees fan. He loved to spend time with his family and friends, and took great pride and joy in baking and cooking, especially with his fellow students and chefs.
Besides his parents, he is survived by two sisters, Elizabeth and Colleen Gaffey, both of Meriden; his maternal grandparents, Joseph and Ellen Gracey, Jr. of Meriden; his paternal grandparents, Martin and Joyce Gaffey of Meriden; his uncles and aunts, Michael and Marcia Gaffey, William and Patricia August, Mark Gaffey, Karen (his godmother) and Darren Piquol, Kelly Gracey and Tom Vartanian, Katie and Bryan Uryase, Jay and Colleen Gracey, Linda Deming and Kevin and Jennifer Gaffey; his cousins, Erin and Pete Ives, Brian Gaffey, Allison, Evan and Morgan Gaffey, Dan and Nick August, Madelyn Uryase, Jack and Luke Piquol, Brendan, Lauren and Meghan Gracey, Aidan and Ella Vartanian, Riley Ives, Colin and Kevin Gaffey. He was predeceased by his favorite uncle and godfather, Paul Gaffey.
Friends and relatives are invited to attend a Mass of Christian burial to take place on Friday, Feb. 6 at 11 a.m. at St. Rose of Lima Church, 35 Center St., Meriden. Friends are asked to go directly to the church. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery. Friends may call at the John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 East Main St., Meriden on Thursday, Feb. 5 from 3 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to the Thomas M. Gaffey Culinary Scholarship Fund, c/o Wilcox Technical School, 298 Oregon Road, Meriden, 06451. Please make checks payable to: Wilcox Student Activity Fund. www.jferryfh.com.

Here it is one year later since Tom has passed. My granddaughter Kaleigh had to counsel for awhile as I'm sure most who loved and were close to him had to. He has not left Kaleigh's memory or heart but she has learned to cope.
It is much more harder on his personal family so for his parents and two sister's my heart goes out to you. So all else I want to say is Tom you are truly missed and in our hearts and prayers. <3

Tommy,it has been one month already since this terrible tragity yet the pain for Nichole,Samantha,Jessica,Ashley,
Chuck and myself continues.They say that time heals all things,maybe it does but the sadness of this will live with Nichole and our family until we grow old.The boy that she met in 8th grade that filled her with so much joy,math class,spanish class, movies,painting her room ....green,dances,tutoring,bean bag fights and lets not forget me walking into the room seeing tommy and Nichole jumping on the bed playing air guitars to their band Green Day with their favorite song on....Poprocks and Coke.The joy that I felt the summer of 2008 when Tommy and Nichole had wanted to date eachother,I was so happy for them.Our months with Tommy were filled with trips to the mall,picture taking,them reading together,making homemade pizza,scrapbooking together,walks,movies,the Durham Fair,Homecoming and this water fight in our back yard in which Tommy won of course.I will never forget how much this young man met to my daughter,they had planned on attending Johnson and Wales together because Tommy wanted a restaurant and Nichole wanted a bakery so they said one day, "How about we do it together,we will put a bakery in the restaurant so we can be together always" then they began to design it on a Sims game for chefs.This young man has been one of the most caring,lovingand helpful that I have had the pleasure of knowing....he always greeted me with a hug and a smile.We love you soooooo much Tommy......you are forever in our hearts and I believe that whatever Nichole accomplishes in her life now she will do it for both of you because I know that she truely loves you.

Oh, where to start. My condolences go out to the Gaffey Family, and friends of tom. I knew tommy since middle school, we shared our favorite color. Green. We were together for most of middle school and exceeded to highschool where the only thing we shared was lockers, exactly 4 away. Ive never seen him without a smile on his face, and now he shares his smile with the heavens. What can really be said at this time of mourning? If, anything could be said that, would be comforting, it would have come to light years before now. My Condolences go out to especially,his family and people who knew him and were close to him. I only knew him through my granddaughter-Kaleigh Corbeil not personally but, my heart goes out to her, Amanda, Steve and Lauren. May God lessen your grief. I felt good when, my Granddaughter said Tom's Mom asked, her to bring forth the gifts in church, she was honored. They just had been with him the week before at the Mall. Amanda, also helped bring up the gifts and was his date at the prom. Everyone will find there way and time to get through this but, of course never forgotten. Tom, rest in peace and you are loved and will always be remembered for the great person you were.
