HAVERHILL — Mr. Thomas G. Gleason, 86, former longtime Bradford resident, died Saturday morning, April 24, 2010 at St. Patrick's Manor, Framingham.
He was born on Dec. 27, 1923 in Brooklyn, N.Y. He was the son of the late Benedict and Mary (Skelly) Gleason. Educated in New York, Mr. Gleason attended NYU and Clemson. He graduated from City College of New York and received his master's degree from Fairleigh Dickinson University, New Jersey.
During World War II he served in the United States Army in the Pacific Theater, and was honorably discharged as a Master Sergeant.
He moved to Bradford in 1957 where he was employed for over 50 years as an accountant for the Robert Gare Co., more recently Haverhill Paperboard, from where he retired in the late 1980s.
A longtime member of Sacred Hearts Parish, Bradford, he was a member of the St. Vincent De Paul Society, the Holy Name Society and the Sacred Hearts Finance Council.
An avid golfer Mr. Gleason was also a Cub Scout and Boy Scout leader. He was a dedicated baseball coach and when he was not coaching he was leading the cheers, with an occasional comment for the other side.
He was the husband of the late Mary (Tuohy) Gleason who died in 2002 and father of the late Gregory T. Gleason who died in 1959. His survivors include four sons, Atty. Scott F. and his wife Patricia J. Gleason of Haverhill, Capt. Michael K. USN (Ret) and his wife Robynn Gleason of Ridgecrest, Calif., Atty. Thomas J. and his wife Susanne Gleason of Amesbury, Atty. Sean P. and his wife Mary Ellen Gleason of Bradford; two daughters, Mary T. Gleason of Wakefield, Patricia G. and her husband Jon Ahern of Scottsdale, Ariz.; a brother, Paul and his wife Pat Gleason of Bethlehem, Pa.; 12 grandchildren, Wesley M., Patrick T., Jeffrey S., Kala P., Shane T., Patrick D., Molly E., and Michael G. Gleason, Jack, Mary M., K. Scout, and Margaret M. Ahern, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
ARRANGEMENTS: Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the funeral Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. from the H.L. Farmer & Sons Funeral Home, 106 Summer St., Haverhill, followed by a funeral Mass at 10:30 a.m. in Sacred Hearts Church, Bradford. Burial will be at Elmwood Cemetery in Bradford. Calling hours at the funeral home will be Tuesday from 4 to 8 p.m. Contributions in his memory may be made to Sacred Hearts School Endowment Fund, 31 South Chestnut St., Bradford, MA 01835. The patriarch of the Gleason clan has passed....to join his beloved Mary and his young son Gregory in a much better place!!
