I met Ted Haugstad in the70's at the Everett Tavern when he was plant manager for Cablevision which was a few blocks away. It was also a go to place for Everett Firefighters since it was owned by one of their own. We stayed best of friends and I met his brothers Tom and Terry at that time as well as his mom Rhona. He was best man at my wedding, I also stayed inconstant contact with Tom. I was very fortunate to have a nice visit with him at the recovery center he was at 9 days before his passing. The pictures of Tom were at a birthday party and a monthly lunch get together for Everett Firefighters and a few others that was started by ex Fire Chief Doug McNall. When he passed away I continued setting up the meetings. The lunch picture was taken in June of 2022. It was snapped before others had showed up. Tom and his brother Ted were joined by myself and Doug's son which many of us called Little Doug.

Rest In Peace Chief. You were the first Battalion Chief I worked for, and I still remember my first "invite" to your office, and I'll never forget the "corrective" visit a couple of years later. Between those two opportunities and beyond you were a great man to know and call a friend. Your awesome stories and sage advice are memorable.

Tom was a close friend for over 40 years. He was a mentor to me throughout my fire department career, a golfing partner, camping buddy, personal carpenter, and favorite storyteller. He was friend that you could always depend on. He was a proud member of the Reno six, with myself, Rex Tucker, Jim Schwartz, Mike Lambert, and Johnny Smith. He was our built in entertainment, telling story after story until our cheeks hurt. I will miss you my friend. Little Mike.

I will sure miss Dad´s animated storytelling, level head and his attention to proper table manners. Lol
