Thomas Hensley Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on May 1, 2025.
Thomas Arthur Hensley, age 78. passed away on April 26, 2025 at Morton Hospital, Taunton, Ma after a lengthy battle with Dementia.

Arthur, as he preferred to be known by, was born on October 13, 1946 in Berea, Kentucky to Harvey Hensley and Laura (Brewer) Hensley. Arthur lived a life of service as an attorney spanning over four decades, a proud member of the United States Marine Corps and a dedicated father and faithful husband.

After attending and earning his BA from Kenyon College in 1968, Arthur enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps where he achieved the rank of sergeant. He was honorably discharged in 1970. Upon completing his military service, Arthur pursued and successfully earned his Juris Doctor(1973) from Suffolk University Law School, Boston, Ma. Arthur was a brilliant attorney who cared deeply about his clients. Born of humble beginnings, Arthur empathized with those less fortunate and often rendered legal services pro bono. Though Arthur zealously pursued justice for his clients, he understood his most important roles were that of father and husband. He would daily ask his sons, "what did you do today to make the world a better place?", always cognizant of raising young men who prioritized selflessness and altruism.

Arthur was an accomplished athlete during his high school and college careers. He secured several records as an elite track star and as of this writing, still holds the triple jump record (46.4 feet) at Kenyon College. In addition to track, Arthur was an adept basketball and football player even enjoying semi-pro status as a basketball player post-college. During his midlife, Arthur fell in love with the game of golf and played as often as possible forging personal relationships with other avid golfers.

As an English major at Kenyon, Arthur embraced literature, poetry and art. He was an accomplished writer with an emphasis on poetry. His vast vocabulary and skill as an orator contributed to his success as a writer and trial attorney.

Arthur was a tremendous home cook who loved feeding family and friends. His willingness to try new things was always well received and further inspired his desire to step outside the box in his culinary pursuits. Arthur also had a great sense of humor and always had a joke at the ready to share with a stranger or a friend. Though his jokes leaned a bit dry, his keen delivery made it worth a listen.

Arthur shares four sons with his former wives, Martha Hensley and Melissa Giordano-Hensley. Nicholas A. Hensley, Barstow, Ca., Benjamin H. Hensley (wife Tracey), Carver, Ma., Kostas T. Hensley and Shia F. Hensley, Raynham, Ma. He is Grandpa to Cameron A. Hensley and Erich M. Hensley.

Arthur is survived by his brothers, Walter Hensley, Oregon and Roland Ray Hensley, Kentucky. He is preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Bonnie (Lockhart) Hensley.

Even while navigating life with Dementia, Arthur insisted he lived a good life. He expressed gratitude for all he was afforded and exemplified the banner embossed on his personal stationery, 'Thomas Arthur Hensley, attorney and good guy'. Burial at the National Cemetery in Bourne, MA will be private. Services will be announced shortly.
