I am saddened by the loss of a great childhood friend. My sympathy to Tom´s wife Renell and sons Ryan and Brett as well as to Terry and the extended Herald family. I first met Tom (and Terry) in kindergarten, and we spent all our school years together as classmates and friends from grade school at St Joseph´s through Notre Dame High School. During all those years we were friends and hung out a lot together. In high school Tom along with Jim Hoopman (Hoopy who also just recently passed away), Tom Mullen, and me were part of foursome that had many great adventures-often while cruising the streets of Cresco. We were good friends and supported each other and Tom´s charm, loyalty, and humor were part of the glue that bound us (also beer and extended card games). I am grateful that I have been able to maintain a connection with Tom long after our 1969 graduation-mainly through high school reunions. I am especially grateful that we had a chance for long conversation at our most recent reunion last summer in Cresco. I did not realize it would be our last meeting.
I was able to dig up an upload here an old photo from our 1969 high school prom that has Tom and Hoopy in the same picture (along with several other classmates).

To Tom's Family, I am sorry for the loss of Tom. I think about him a lot. I have known Tom since he was 10 years old. He was a Junior Attendant in our Wedding almost 63 years ago. Tom was a friend as well as a brother to Ron, the oldest sibling. To me, he was special as he shared his faith during his fight with Cancer three times. Each time he was the perfect example of how to win, how to have courage, how to be better, not bitter, as he handled surgeries and treatments with courage and dignity. His smile was infectious and his caring, way will be missed. love to all of you, paula

Sending our deepest sympathy to you Renell & to Ryan & Brett & family. Tom was one sweet guy I remember how you met him (Pyramid) when we lived in California. I remember going to your house in the Santa Cruz mountains. Then your house in San Jose & here in Marengo. I know Tom brought so much joy into your life Renell. I hope you carry that joy & love with you always. Love you!

The first time we met Tom was with Renelle at our daughter´s 21st birthday party & we all hit it off immediately. It was also a "meet the parents" night as Ryan and Natalie were dating. That led to a marriage and 3 awesome grandkids we have all been blessed with. So glad we got to share so many memories & times with Tom and to all of his family our hearts & prayers are with you all!
