I am not sure if anyone will read this, but I knew Tom when he was at McGill University in Montreal. We played intramural football together and we became friends in our last semester there. He was a helluva athlete. I stayed at McGill to do graduate studies and Tom went back to the U.S., and we unfortunately didn't keep in touch after McGill.

I was just looking at our McGill graduation year book with my wife (we met at McGill and she also knew Tom), and we came across his picture which brought back fond memories. I googled his name and was extraordinarily saddened when I saw his obituary from 2007. I wanted to express these thoughts and let anyone who might read this know that Tom was a terrific guy and friend.

Dear Hurell Family,

To the greater Hurrell family, particularly Al and LaMese

While I don't recall ever meeting Tom, as a WNHS classmate of Al and LaMese, I certainly know of the fabric of which he came and the comments from those who have shared sentiments here indicate it is my loss to have not met him.

My thoughts and wishes primarily are with his wife and children--it is not fair to have to go on without him.

May every day be easier than yesterday.

Last Saturday my dear friend of 38 years stepped over from this earth to his Eternal home in Glory. I know as You reached over with your Loving Arms to receive him You said, Tom, Well done my good and faithful servant"!

Those of us who were so priveledged to know him as a loving husband, dad, son, brother, dear friend, and co-worker will never forget the life he has left us with. Tom's love of life and devotion to his family and friends were so well exemplified, by the Love He had for You, His God.

Lord, thank you for the 48 wonderful years you put him on this earth to make such a difference in so many of our lives. May those of us that are left with this great pain and loss of his departure, look to You for our continued source of Strength, Hope, and Comfort in the days ahead. Especially for his dear wife Diane, (the kids) Tommy, Mary, Sarah, (family) Mom & Dad Hurrell, Al, LaMese, John, Bill and all the other family members, shower them with Your Strength in this great time of need.

Dianne, Tom, Mary, & Sarah,

We have all lost a loved one, someone who has touched our lives in so many different ways. Having been at West Central for 16 years has given me the honor of knowing Tom. He was passionate about helping the anesthesia community so that we could help our patients. His honesty, integrity, beliefs, and forthrightness were evident in all he said and did. I will also miss his jokes, his smile, and the atmosphere that he created when he was in the room. Tom achieved what many hope for -- to make the world a better place than when we entered it.

Peace.

Please know that you have Kathy and my deepest sympathy and love at this most difficult of times.

Tom was a very special person who profoundly influenced our lives. I remember well my first interview with him in 1989 and the subsequent interactions which developed into a nearly twenty-year friendship.

His impact on my professional development is unmeasurable. He believed in compassion, humility and service. He led by example. He was a rock of stability in an otherwise uncertain world.

Tom has done so much for Kathy and I, for our Group, for the specialty of anesthesia and for the medical profession. Kathy and I will sorely miss him.

Please let us know if we can do anything for you at this time. Please, please do not hesitate to call.

May God bless all of you.
