KONKIN _ In loving memory of Thomas William Konkin, our beloved father, grandfather and great-grandfather who passed away peacefully on Sunday March 28, 2004 with his adoring children by his side. Happily, he is now reunited with the love of his life, his reason for being, our mother, Jeri, who predeceased him in November 2003, and with our brother Russ Dunham who predeceased him in February 1998. Our Dad was our hero, our anchor, our friend, our mentor. As a father and grandfather, we had the best. We thank you, Dad, for the ways in which you filled our lives with your unending generosity, love of life and laughter, for all the lessons you taught us all throughout our lives. Tom was stability, truth and dependability personified. He led a rich and rewarding life, knowing how to work hard, but also knowing how to enjoy life and have fun. Born September 10, 1927 in Camsack, Saskatchewan, he was the youngest of seven children and his passing marks the end of an era. Tom worked for General Paint until 1966 when he left in order to take on an up-start company, Ad-Print Markings Ltd and in 1974, assisted Jeri with the start of Ampco Manufacturers Inc. In both cases, he and Jeri took these companies beyond their wildest dreams. Tom was an astute businessman, an avid golfer, fisherman and traveler. Over the years, he and Jeri spent their happiest times in Kona, Hawaii and by the pool with their myriad of grandchildren. Since retiring in 1996, his life revolved around Jeri, golf, Hawaii and his family until Jeri's illness when his focused devotion rested on her alone. Tom is lovingly remembered but sadly missed by his 3 surviving children: Jody Vajda (Chris), Tanny Vermeulen (George), Dann Konkin (Carey); his grandchildren, Alix Dunham (Omar Diaz), Sarah Dunham (Paul Jasich), Matt Dunham and their mother Lynne Dunham (Mike Steele); Shane and Danna Vajda; Robyn, Courtenay and John Vermeulen; Ben and Kylene Konkin and their mother, Monique Church (Mark), and Mackenzie Konkin; and four great-grandchildren, Asha and Indigo Diaz, Max and Eli Dunham-Jasich. The family would like to express their gratitude to Dr. Anita Early, Shylo Nursing Service and the staff of 7 West at Lions Gate Hospital for the loving care and kindness. A celebration of Tom's life will be held Sunday April 18, 2004 at 3 PM at the North Lonsdale United Church, 3380 Lonsdale Avenue, North Vancouver, BC. In lieu of flowers, donations in Tom's memory gratefully accepted to the Lions Gate Hospital Foundation or the charity of your choice. "We were not human beings having a spiritual experience.
