Thomas Lenahan Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 11, 2023.
Thomas Lenahan, Compassionate Chiropractor with a Big Heart, Passes at 76 (1947-2023)

Thomas Lenahan, a beloved healer who touched thousands of lives in North Texas passed away on August, 7, 2023, he was 76. With his signature upbeat phrase, "good morning", no matter what time of day it was, Tom greeted people each day in a playful and friendly way. This simple phrase captured how he approached his life.

His passing was announced by Sue-Anne MacGregor, his devoted wife of 21 years. Since 2016, their love and dedication helped Tom navigate numerous health complications stemming from his exposure to agent orange during his service in the U.S. Navy in Vietnam. Despite his valiant fight, Tom succumbed to pancreatic cancer.

Thomas Lenahan was born in Duncan, Oklahoma on July 28, 1947, the eldest of three children to Thomas and Emily Lenahan. He maintained close bonds with his sisters, Rachel Lenahan and Cece Wright of Wichita Falls, TX, affectionately known as "Tommy" to them. He was passionate about sharing every Thanksgiving with his sisters, celebrating their joy of being together while cooking their traditional family recipes. Tommy's love extended to his nephew, Michael Wright and his family of Nagoya, Japan, and niece, Emily Wright of Austin, TX, whom he cherished dearly.

In the pursuit of his passions, Tom explored various paths, even becoming an adept cook and owning several successful restaurants. At the age of 40, he embarked on a new journey, enrolling at Parker University in Dallas, TX, to follow his calling as a chiropractor. Over the years, he touched the lives of countless individuals through his chiropractic practice, leaving a lasting impact until his retirement at the end of 2022. Tom was also an adept NLP Master Practitioner as well as Biofeedback and Neurotherapy Clinician. He was one of the first chiropractors to include these skills in his practice.

Beyond his professional endeavors, Tom exemplified his commitment to community service by dedicating nearly three decades to Prestonwood Rotary Club of Dallas and actively supporting the Amelia Earhart School in Dallas, TX. His compassionate nature led him to become an ordained minister, a role that reflected his boundless desire to provide solace and support to those in need.

In lieu of traditional gifts or flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Tom's memory to Challenge Air For Kids. This non-profit organization, located in Dallas, TX, offers a unique, once-in-a-lifetime experience to children with special needs between the ages of 7 and 21, allowing them to co-pilot an aircraft and receive the gift of flight. https://www.challengeair.com

We remember Tom for the good cheer and humor he brought to our Rotary meetings. Even in the days when he was no longer moving as well, he continued to be a valuable contributor.

Tommy was not only a five star caregiver, who healed my aching back for many years, he also had a heart as big as a building. He loved give of himself back to society on all levels of humanity. He had a great sense of humor and loved. Kidding you and being kidded by you. So many fun stories with this wonderful man. We will miss you.

Dr Tom made an amazing impact on my life. From childhood until early adulthood, Tom helped adjust my growing body to ease the pain that came with it throughout the years. I would not be the same man today without Tom. I also recall the many conversations talking his Kansas "Jayhawkers" through the seasons, and enjoying every moment; along going to Kansas football and basketball games with him and my dad (a KU alumni). Thank you Tom for making my life so much better, I wouldn't be the same without your loving care.

Is any sick among you? let him call for the elders of the church; and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord

Dr. Tom was one in a million. He touched every life he came in contact with. His smile, compassion and kindness embraced everyone! He was my chiropractor, my cooking buddy at Thanksgiving at church and most of all he was my friend! I love you dearly Dr. Tom! You will be truly missed!

To say that Tommy was a good man is an understatement. He was gentle, kind, loving, authentic and real. Thomas Lenahan DC as a good human who practiced what he preached. Albeit, he didn´t really preach with words, he lived what he believed.
He and Sue-Anne MacGregor were cut from the same cloth.....a cloth they don´t make anymore.
I am proud that I got to be his friend.

I'll never forget the day I met Dr. Tom.
Nearly 20 years ago, through a mutual friend of mine and Tom's, I was gifted my very first chiropractor visit. I walked into his office, hunched over and in pain. I was nervous and scared because my whole life, i never heard good things about a chiropractor. He helped me overcome my fears. He explained what he was doing, talked to my body (which at that time i was confused, haha) and he helped me start a healing process that i continue to do even now. I'm for certain that had I never walked into his doors, I'd still be hunched over and in daily pain.
Throughout our 20 year patient/acquaintance/friendship, there were some years long stretches we didn't see each other. But a few years ago I visited Tom at a rehab hospital and although we hadn't seen each other in years, he remembered me and we chatted for sometime. He remembered my son, whom he briefly treated.
Overall, Tom was a great man. I genuinely loved him and I enjoyed all our conversations. And I am so thankful to God that he had our paths cross.
Tom will be greatly missed but I'm so happy to know that he is now completely healed from all his ailments.
Peace to you, Dr. Tom. All my love, Frances.

Here´s to Tom, that wonderful, zany, and playful man. Thank you for all the healing, the banter, and the love! One of the strongest man I've ever met and big-hearted too.
