Thomas Ludlow Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Oct. 4, 2024.
Our beloved Tom passed peacefully from this world in the quiet hours of the morning of October 2, 2024, surrounded by his devoted wife and family. Those who loved him most are grateful that he has shed the burdens and ailments of this earthily existence and returned to his Heavenly home.

Thomas was born on September 29, 1942, and is the eldest son of Albert and Dorthea Ludlow. Tom was born in Salt Lake City then moved to Moab, Utah in his youth. During his senior year his family relocated back to Salt Lake City, and he graduated from Highland High School. Shortly thereafter, he was called to serve a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Scotch/Irish mission. Thomas then began his academic studies at the University of Utah, where he studied Zoology and met the absolute love of his life, Susan Wells. They were sealed for time and eternity in the Salt Lake Temple on March 25, 1965. He was next accepted into Northwestern University, School of Dentistry in Chicago, Illinois. With their newborn son, Richard, in tow the little family set off on one of their most treasured experiences. During their time in Chicago Tom received his Doctorate of Dental Surgery and served as a First Lieutenant in the National Guard. After graduation they returned to Salt Lake City and Tom began practicing dentistry with Dr. Sylvio Fassio. Dr. Ludlow practiced dentistry for 46 mores years at 850 East 300 South. Tom and Sue were blessed with three more children, Camille, Wendi and Kimberly.

During the ensuing years Thomas continued to develop his passion for adventure. Along with his family, they toured the western US in a motorhome pulling a trailer full of motorcycles. Tom truly loved being outdoors. On any given Saturday you could find him washing his cars, pruning his beautiful gardens and walking the streets of East Millcreek.

An avid hunter and firearm enthusiast Tom enjoyed yearly hunting expeditions and Alaskan fishing trips with his cousin Glen. When he wasn't hunting you could find him reading, journaling and listening to smooth jazz.

Thomas spent countless hours serving for the Church. He held numerous leadership positions throughout his life, the highlight was serving as the Bishop of the EMC 19th YSA ward. He was later called to be the Scout Master and for the next ten years helped young men earn their various scouting awards. Thomas earned the esteemed Silver Beaver Award for a lifetime of dedicated service to the Boy Scouts of America. Thomas served as a worker in the Salt Lake Temple until it was closed for remodeling in 2019.

Tom was a man of honor, trust, integrity, and fortitude. He loved his Savior Jesus Christ and sought to emulate His qualities. He loved his dear wife "Suzy Q" and they created a legacy of eternal love.

Survived by his wife Susan Wells Ludlow, Son Richard (Jodi) Ludlow, Daughters Camille (Bruce) Killpack, Wendi (TJ) Fenton, and Kimberly (Mark) Hall. 18 amazing grandchildren and 3 great grandsons, brothers Alan (Betty) Ludlow and Val (Jann) Ludlow. Sister-in law Janice (Bill) Sipes.

Tom was our wonderful neighbor for many years. He could really grow wonderful vegetables and fruits in his garden. He taught my daughters how to wash a car and make it look brand new. We love Tom Ludlow and his wife Sue. Sending our condolences and love your way. Thank you, Tom for all the kindnesses you have shown us. We will miss you.

I am sorry to say I just saw this notice. Tom was a big part of my life, beyond becoming our dentist who we were so pleased with, I knew Tom through the extended Wells family. Many wonderful memories. Sue, I am so sorry for you and the kids. Tom was a kind and funny guy. We were very sad when he retired and we lost touch with him and the family.
