Thomas A. Mac Donnell, Colonel Uniter States Army, retired, died on May 20, 2024 in his home in Pawleys Island, SC. Col. MacDonnell was born August 18, 1931 in Waltham, MA , the oldest son of the late John J. and Frances E. Mac Donnell and the nephew of the late Mary C. Mooney. He was graduated from St. Mary's High School and Boston University, after which he was commissioned in the United States Army in 1954. After serving for 40 years, he retired from the Army as a Full Colonel; Commander US Army Military Police Operations in1985. He was preceded in death by his wife Dorothy Jordan MacDonnell of Jamaica Plain, as well as his brothers John and Kenneth. He is survived by his 6 children; Tad MacDonnell (Sandy) of Cape Cod, MA, Sean MacDonnell (Leslie) of Charleston, SC, Brian MacDonnell (Claudia) of Pawleys Island,SC, Maura Tapley (John) of Marietta, GA, Aileen Hughes (Michael) of Vienna,VA and Patricia Day (Todd) of Colorado Springs, CO, as well as 16 grandchildren and 14 great grand children. A Catholic Mass will be held on Friday, June 21, 2024 in Pawleys Island, SC.

Col. MacDonnell will be interned at Arlington National Cemetery with full military honors at a date to be dertermined.
